Where is the Notifications button?

Notifications have not loaded for me all day (someone else has this problem as well: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/notifications-not-loading-6?replies=7#post-2136500), the button shows but it never loads, this problem started today on Firefox 33 on Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS with OpenDNS Home/Free.

That’s exactly what happened to the notifications button on my blog last week. It lasted a couple days then it was “fixed”.
Hopefully it will be fixed on the other blogs soon, too.
As timethief mentioned in this thread and the other thread, click on the notifications link to see what’s been going on with your blog (comments, follows, likes, etc). https://wordpress.com/notifications/

Thank you John Jr. for bringing my post to light!
I too am using Firefox, 33.1.1 and my flash Adobe is latest version on a PC.
The notification button is there (top right beside the gravatar) however when clicked the menu drops down and a wheel turns within it as if it is thinking and thinking. I can leave it open for minutes or hours and never loads. I’ve cleared cache and cookies and all the hoopla.
If this is happening with multiple users than it can’t be my device but rather the notification button server thingie? Lol! -
You are welcome Mark4303 :) , it is probably just a temporary bug, I think that they will fix it once they read this topic. ;)

mine is always on the upper-left side of my page. Guess its the one you’re talking about
-
Interesting, mine is on the far upper-right side Idealfreelance1:

This is a tough one to debug because it doesn’t happen to everyone and isn’t easy to repeat. I’ve seen it happen a couple times myself, but not often and I haven’t been able to see exactly what might be triggering it yet.
It would be helpful to know if this happens to a lot of people or just a few. Right now, it sounds like it happens to just a few people and just some of the time.
I noticed in the past that it happened more often if I had left a page open for a long time, then came back to it and tried notifications. Completely closing and reopening your browser might help if that describes what’s happening in your case.
Another thing you could check is whether you have any browser add-ons installed, like ad blockers, because sometimes things like that are aggressive and affect things on a page they shouldn’t. Might be worth temporarily disabling them as a troubleshooting step just in case.
-
Also, there is some work being done on the menu bar design, so it will probably change again in the not-too-distant future. The notifications button will be on the far right.
-
Thank you, designsimply, for your input!
As suggested, I tried disabling the pop-up blocker while also disabling the add-ons. I refreshed the page, logged out, logged back in, and still same problem. I generally turn my computer off every night, too. I’m guessing it’s a Firefox issue, as I tried yesterday logging in on the computer at work which uses Safari and the notification button opened no problem.
Oh well! I’m sure it’ll work itself out eventually. I noticed this start as of Sunday Nov 16th, so in a week’s time maybe it’ll be fine :)What I did learn from this thread is that I can just do the wordpress.com/notifications URL in the meantime!
Cheers! -
Hello Designsimply,
I still think that it is a bug as WordPress makes changes because none of my extensions (Adblock Plus, Web Of Trust, Xmarks, Video DownloadHelper) or plugins (Default Ubuntu Plug-Ins) have changed recently or my browser version, I always use Permanent Private Mode and I even disabled Adblock Plus and restarted my browser and computer, and it still does not work for me today and all of my software is up-to-date.
Are you using OpenDNS Mark4303?
That is the only thing that I have changed recently, I am testing OpenDNS, I am just wondering if you are using that too because that could possibly be the problem if it is not a problem on WordPress’s end.
Also are you using Ubuntu or another Linux distribution as your operating system like I am?

I just updated to Firefox 33.1.1 and still no Joy. I thought that I used to access Notifications from hovering over/clicking on the wordpress W in a circle but that has gone too and been replaced by a stylized world globe. I didn’t mind when it moved to the reader button next door but now that only shows freshly pressed. As Alice once said Curiouser and Curiouser!

Actually, seeing it work from one location and not from another could indicate a network issue.
But let’s look at one more troubleshooting idea I have first… if you’re willing to dig a little deeper to debug, it might help to know if you see any JavaScript errors show up in your browser console. If you’re willing, can you follow the steps here except in step 3 you should also make sure to try hovering and/or clicking the notifications icon:
-
Hi johnjronline, how are you!? :)
Thanks for including a screenshot earlier: https://mediacru.sh/_PHJly96_nn8
Can you try looking for JavaScript errors too? I’m not sure what else to check just yet. The instructions at http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/advanced-browser-troubleshooting/# javascript-errors-in-mozilla-firefox should work for you.
I always use Permanent Private Mode and I even disabled Adblock Plus and restarted my browser and computer, and it still does not work for me today
I did try checking the notifications in the WordPress.com gray toolbar from Firefox 33.1 on a Mac, and they did work for me. So private mode must not be a factor. That was good to check on though.

That sounds odd. Can you screenshot that for me by chance so I can see what you are seeing?

Hello Designsimply, I am doing badly good or good badly (a combination of bad and good depending on what/which part of my life we are talking about (physical, social, mental, economic, et cetera ;) ) ) thank you :D ; hopefully things are going well for you. :)
You are welcome. :)
Yes, hopefully I did this correctly, when I clicked Clear everything was still selected so I had to manually unselect everything except for JS:

Thank you for checking Firefox with Private Mode, and you might also want to try it with OpenDNS Home/Free (recently I have been testing/using their free DNS service, so this could possibly be causing it, this is the only part of my computer setup that I changed recently):
https://store.opendns.com/setup/#/
OpenDNS Test Page To Test If You Set It Up Correctly (The Test Your Settings option on the first link is currently not working, I reported this to OpenDNS, and they are working on fixing this):

Thank you,

I’m not that advanced John Jr. lol!
I don’t know what open DNS is… So I guess I’m not using it.
My operating system is windows 7, so again, our variables are different, the only thing common is Firefox and WordPress.
I’ll try the steps when I can get to my computer
Thank you!! -
It is okay Mark4303 :D , I understand. ;)
The easiest way to test whether you are using OpenDNS or not is to go to this link and it will tell you whether you are using it or not ;) :

Thank you for letting me know which operating system that you are using, that is helpful information, good luck. :)
