where is the old editor?
-
All of the sudden all my blogs are using the new editor. I hate it…where is the old one? I can’t seem to access it.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The Classic Editor will continue to exist in wp-admin. We know some users prefer to use this editor, so we want you to have access to it, instead of phasing it out with the new version of the Dashboard. However, a link to the Classic Editor will not return to the New Editor. From: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/when-editing-an-old-post-how-do-i-switch-to-the-classic-editor?replies=5#post-2316097
Dashboard > Posts > Add New
Staff removed the link in the new editor to the classic editor but there are two workarounds that can be used found here:

Hi @spiritmeadow,
The easiest way to continue to access the classic editor is to use the following URL:
http://afeatheradrift.wordpress.com/wp-admin
Clicking Posts -> Add New from that sidebar should give you the Classic Editor. If you have any specific constructive feedback regarding the New Editor (pieces you would like to see improved), we would love to hear it!

I too am SO frustrated about this so-called improved posting experience..
how can you make something good SO bad?
If you if you have tenosynovitis or other problems in the directions, it is a huge problem with these improvements ..
it is incredibly difficult to multitask with the new, and you have to scroll a lot up and down ..
you can not copy paste in the roof area, extremely bad ..I know you can go from wp admin, but when you have many posts, it is a lot of work to find a specific post in wp admin
You are really making things harder for disabled people – I am so extremely disappointed and heartbroken over this
I thought you would eventually make things more accessible to people, also for people with disabilities!I can not express my great disappointment enough.. can you PLEASE undo this error!
my blog is http://www.globetrotterinawheelchair.com + http://www.kesterart.com

Thanks so much for your feedback @kesters. Just so I’m clear on the overarching issue you described, the increased demand for scrolling is causing issues. Is that correct? What if the New Editor expanded as you added text similar to the current Classic Editor? I’m not sure if this is a possibility, but I’d like to get your feedback.
you can not copy paste in the tags area, extremely bad
That’s odd – I can copy and paste into the tags area on my side. Can you let me know what browser you’re using? You can find out by visiting this page:
-
thanks for answering Jeremy
Yes, the scrolling is (was) causing issues.. but it looks completely different today.. before it was like one looong column, and the text part at the bottom..
I’m using Chrome, and just checked it, still can’t copy/paste, neither with ctrl V
and when you click the drop-down menu for tags, it’ll only show your tags from A-B .. so you have to remember your most common tags..?? seems weird and not very helpful..
-
oh, and at the new editing, I can’t find the Add Contact Form..
and I must say, not being able to see the left column with all your options, (as you can in the old editor) where you can quickly right-click on widget, menu, or another thing if you just remembered you needed to do something.. I use a lot and it makes it very difficult for me to, because I need opening up yet another window, it means more click, (and work, time!) and bad for my tenosynovitis etc.
– understandably, I try to minimize my clicks as much as possible.. -
Yes! When it comes to tenosynovitis and carpal tunnel the last thing we need is more clicking.
-

That’s odd – I’m able to copy and paste into the tag/category boxes in Chrome 41 as shown here (demo of both the right-click method and the keyboard shortcut):
What version of Chrome are you using (you can find out here)?
and when you click the drop-down menu for tags, it’ll only show your tags from A-B .. so you have to remember your most common tags..?? seems weird and not very helpful..
It will show you the first 25 tags on your site in the initial drop-down. However, immediately when you type, the list will re-sort to show tags based on the letters you’ve input!
oh, and at the new editing, I can’t find the Add Contact Form..
On our list of improvements! I’ll update you as soon as we add this in.

I definitely understand the need to minimize the number of clicks, and this has been something that many individuals have described. I would love to get your perspective on the following two scenarios:
Scenario #1 (That I believe mimics your workflow)
You’re editing a post in the classic editor and decide you want to adjust a widget. So, you hover over Appearance -> Widgets in the left-hand menu and open the Widgets page in a new tag (unless you’re working all in one window). Then, you can edit your widgets while simultaneously working on a post.
Scenario #2 (A newer scenario that I’m using)
You’re on WordPress.com. You click “My Sites” in the top left-hand corner and you’re taken to a page like this:
https://wordpress.com/stats/callitluck.wordpress.com (http://d.pr/i/1ksth)
You click on Blog Posts to edit a post and then “Edit” to open up the New Editor in a new window. At this point, you have the editor in a new tab and a page like the one above in the first tab. From that first page, you can use the “Customize” link to edit your widgets.
In both scenarios, you would be opening up two tabs. Could you give that second scenario a try and see where it falls short?

What version of Chrome are you using
I’m using Chrome 41 on Windows 7
It will show you the first 25 tags on your site in the initial drop-down. However, immediately when you type, the list will re-sort to show tags based on the letters you’ve input!
yes, as you point out:
immediately when you type
if I have to type, it the same as click. Each letter is a click.
With the old edit I can with 1 click only see/ use my most common tags.Scenario #1 (That I believe mimics your workflow)
This is exactly what I prefer! – it takes 2 clicks to go from classic/ old edit to Widget (to open in new tab)
Scenario #2 (A newer scenario that I’m using)
This I do NOT like – it takes 4 clicks to go from new edit to Widget (to open in new tab)
Both comes with 2 tabs, correct, but that’s not the issue here.. I’m using twice as many CLICKS to open widget with the new edit..
sorry, it will be difficult for you to convince me that the new edit is better.. for me it often/ or most of the times means twice the amount of clicks/ work/ pain in my hands!
-
ok, I just tried the new edit.. it’s even worse than I thought:
the writing area is way too small and you can’t make it larger, which makes it very difficult to master the whole text if you want to cut paste something from bottom to top without scrolling aka; more CLICKSsigh…
-
I second kesters’s opinion in regard to the “new beep-poop-editor”. (I hate it, too. Same goes for the new statistics page.)
I guess most of the changes have been made to suit the ever increasing number of smartphone or whatever-pad/tablet users, or not? Not everyone wants to write/update posts on the smartphone. I definitely don’t.
Some changes are really strange to me. Why e.g. has the “logout/sign out” first moved to the profile page and then moved under “extras”? What is the benefit for the user of that move?
Pls don’t get me wrong. I really appreciate the great blogging software, the free hosting and the great support here in the forums of wordpress.com. Changes are inevitable. I just don’t get the benefits for the user (or for a user like me) of a lot of the latest changes…
You always state (esp. with the latest changes): “Better blogging experience…” I ask: Better for who?
(Sorry, if I misuse your thread, Kesters)
Cheers. janedoemuc

Please see tpenguinltg’s comment with directions on how to add a user script so you always use the classic editor for new posts and editing older posts.
timethief, also gave you this link in her comment on this thread, but maybe you missed it.
-
it’s quite alright janedoemuc!
The final link does not do anything dandelionsalad..
Besides I’m having a conversation with jeremeylduvall, about my issues with the new editor, I think that this is the place to have it, isn’t? -
Could you open your own thread using the link here? That will be much easier to follow than having multiple conversations in this thread, and I want to make sure your thoughts get the attention they deserve.

if I have to type, it the same as click. Each letter is a click.
With the old edit I can with 1 click only see/ use my most common tags.Understood – I’ll raise the issue of perhaps having the 25 most used tags appear instead of the first 25. Would that work better than the current situation?
sorry, it will be difficult for you to convince me that the new edit is better.. for me it often/ or most of the times means twice the amount of clicks/ work/ pain in my hands!
Understood! I’ll try to think of some ways that this could be simplified.

Currently, the classic editor expands as you add text. What if we looked at adding this to the new editor? As I explained before, I’m not guaranteeing that this would happen, but it’s an idea. Or, is the issue that the post box isn’t manually expandable?
-
thanks jeremeylduvall
I’m here : https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-editor-5?replies=1#post-2329100 -
I realized my mistake (w. a little help from timethief!) and I’m back in this thread!
thanks a lot for making sure my thoughts are taken seriously jeremeylduvall!
I DO appreciate all the wonderful work you are all doing.. these problems are just killing me..Understood – I’ll raise the issue of perhaps having the 25 most used tags appear instead of the first 25. Would that work better than the current situation?
yes, it would help a lot!

today I realized that when you create a link in your text and tic the box “open link in new tab”, is does not open in new tab
and with new editor making a text headline paragraph, headlines 1-6 etc, is missing ..
-
Sorry for the confusing messaging! Thanks @Timethief for getting us back on track.
Re: Tags
yes, it would help a lot!
Understood! I’ll see if that’s a viable option.
Re: editor box expanding

Same as above! Thanks for your feedback. Again, I can’t promise this will be implemented, but I will promise to update you on whatever ends up happening!
today I realized that when you create a link in your text and tic the box “open link in new tab”, is does not open in new tab
Hmm…this appears to be working on my side. Here’s a video of me inserting a link:
The target=”_blank” attribute is what causes the link to open in a new window. Can you check the Text Editor to see if that’s getting added to your links?
and with new editor making a text headline paragraph, headlines 1-6 etc, is missing ..
Can you try using the toolbar toggle shown here?
That should reveal the same dropdown for text formatting.

great!

the target=”_blank” attribute is there!
it seems like my links referring to somewhere else om my blog, opens in new tab, when links referring outside my blog, opens in same tab..
example at this page:
http://globetrotterinawheelchair.com/2014/12/31/why-im-here-but-less/Can you try using the toolbar toggle shown here?
That should reveal the same dropdown for text formatting.
yep, got it.. sorry missed that one..
as I mentioned before; it was like one looong column, and the text editor part at the bottom.. the scrolling was causing issues.. the other day it looked completely different being just under the headline ..
again today it’s one long column, and the text editor part at the bottom.. don’t know if you understand – is there somehow I can add screenshot in this forum to show you?
