Where is the option to control which post is at the top?

I feel so silly, I saw this option once before, but now, after looking 3 or 4 times, I can’t find it in any of the options on the dashboard.
My second blog is not placing the most recent post at the top of my main blog page. Where is that control? >_<

http://guildmistress.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php ?you don’t have to feel silly — many WP options are so dispersed across admin control panel, so it’s no wander one may have a hard time to find some because they are happened to be in the most unexpected places.

Well, I saw that page, but there’s nowhere on that that says “sort posts by “most recent at top” or “Most recent at bottom””

sorry, there is no such option at the wp.com
you might want/have to resort to ‘Pages’ instead of Posts.

You’re kidding me. That’s incredible.
Well, it must depend on the theme you use, then, because one of my blogs does it most recent at top, and this new one, (with a different theme) does it most recent at bottom.
Incidentally, during this time I’ve decided that I actually want this new blog to list it most recent at bottom, so I’m ok. Otherwise I would be hopping mad and have to change my Theme. (Or at the very least employ my Edit CSS feature to hack it to make it work the way I want.)

You know, it’s bizzare, but it seems to be changing. The first post was at the top, of course. the second post? below that. THe third post? Up on top of everything else!
Totally strange. Maybe it was just a glitch with the first and second posts? I’m confused.

I can see posts in the regular (most recent at the top) order there.
guess you might were confused by the following manner of displaying posts by the theme in use:
SPECIAL NOTE:
When there are multiple posts on a page published under the SAME DAY, the_date() only displays the date for the first post (that is, the first instance of the_date()).from http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/the_date#Description

@guildmistress: For someone enjoying a free service you seem to be very demanding and critical.
By default WP returns your recent blogs to the front page in date / time order. That behavior can not be changed in the Edit CSS as you suggest. It can be changed by artificially manipulating the date / time stamp of publication. No doubt all this will make you hopping mad – just like many posters here. There is no such thing as a free lunch. -

yep, the OP don’t seem to be very demanding and critical (it’s rather me who is indeed of such ;-), they were just baffled.
and you also know, surely, it’s not anymore a ‘free service‘ for over a year already.
