Where is the *permanent* forum for disappeared paragraphs?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve just had almost all of the paragraphing of a completed blog entry disappear — apparently for no reason. It’s a common problem at WordPress. There are several bloggers/websites hosted here that have noted the problem and complained.

But all the topics are closed — and there are no explanations.

Does anyone have advice on how to stop this happening?

… Not a word from anyone at WordPress. I suppose that says a great deal.

Sorry, sometimes things fall between the cracks and yesterday had a touch of mayhem with the customization thing. (And just between you, me and the hundreds of people who will probably read this-people may prefer to reply to questions rather than complaints; just saying.)

Which Editor are you using? The Classic Post Editor in the WP Admin or the New Dash Post Editor (Beep, Beep, Boop)?

To the best of my knowledge this particular problem seems to happen more frequently in the BBB editor, which is still being developed. The solution is to write only in the Classic Post Editor found in your site’s WP Admin Dashboard>Posts>Add New.

I can point you to this Support doc which explains the various Support options available here on WPcom https://en.support.wordpress.com/help-support-options/ The Live Chat support is being used more frequently for everyone. When you are in your Dashboard (New or Classic), you may see a box heading appear in the lower right corner of your screen that says something like: How can we help? If you click on it to open, you’ll be talking directly to a support person.

Hope that helps. Let us know if you need more info on anything.

    Thank you for those comments.

I use the Classic Post Editor. So, your comments about the other editor may be true but don’t really pertain to the problem of disappearing paragraphing on my website.

The original comment was really a way of announcing dissatisfaction that such a persistent problem should not have an official response in the forums. I did not really expect an answer.

You’re welcome, although I’m sorry I wasn’t able to help you with my first reply.

Is there any chance you are copying/pasting from a word processing program like Word?

You can of course tag this thread for Staff assistance by adding the MODLOOK tag to the Tags section in the forum thread sidebar. As it says in the Support doc I linked to:

How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question?

Some issues require staff member help. If you see or add a thread that you know needs staff intervention, you can add the modlook tag to the tags area of the thread to make sure we see it.

    Best wishes

OK-I need another cuppa, or maybe I’ve already had too many. That quote was actually from this Support doc: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/

If I had pasted text from Word or another word processing program, I can’t see it would be helpful to know. Programs processing text must be able to cope with that. Writers have to do it all the time, so there would no point at all paying to use a publishing platform that was not able to cope with it.

In any case, the disappearing paragraphing disappeared quite out of the blue in a blog posting that had been successfully published some time ago. This effect is a problem that is not caused by some aberrant user behaviour but by the WP system.

Sorry, I can’t seem to get to the bottom of your problem with the line breaks. Perhaps someone else will be willing to try.
