Where is the website?
-
Hi, I made some changes with domain management from wordpress to mydomain.com. I was prompted to get domain name server info but when I tried to do that I get message saying it may take up to 5 days since I just transferred domain service from go daddy to name cheap. I also went into settings and changed privacy until I get the site completed. Now, my website doesn’t appear anymore. Is this due to one or both of these actions? Thank you. JoAnn

Hi there, I switched your primary domain to teachingtea.wordpress.com under Store > Domains so that your site appears in the meantime (it’s private, so it only appears to you).
I’m not quite sure what your end goal is — are you planning to move away from WordPress.com and use third-party hosting? In this case, rather than a Domain Mapping upgrade, what would be useful is a Site Redirect (check out the support article at the link to determine if it’s right for you).

Thanks Jenia. I’m still very confused since I’m reading so many different articles. First issue – I don’t want ‘wordpress’ in my domain name. I want it to be teachingtea.com and that’s how all this started.
2nd: I’d like to transfer to wp.org but I bought a bundle with wp.com. If I transfer I have to pay for the site redirect and also lose the $ spent on the bundle, as well as my premium upgrade so that means I’d have to buy another premium upgrade with someone else. Am I correct on all of this?
Thanks for restoring the site. I just wanted to make the site private until I finish it up and so I went to settings and I think that’s how I mistakenly made it disappear. Thanks again

You can use a custom domain name (without “wordpress.com” in the name) if you stay on WordPress.com, you don’t have to transfer to WordPress.org in order to accomplish that. If you are happy here on WordPress.com, all you need is to change the nameservers with your registrar as below:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMFor more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/Then, update your primary domain again under Store > Domains.

The Value Bundle can only be used on WordPress.com, you cannot transfer it. You will just let that upgrade expire (the subscription is valid for one year after you purchase it, currently it’s set to auto-renew so you might want to disable the auto-renewal under Store > My Upgrades).
If you move to self-hosted WordPress, you’ll need to pay for hosting (we have hosting suggestions here: http://get.wp.com/hosting/ ). You don’t have to buy Site Redirect if you don’t want to, it’s just a suggestion to keep your traffic.
