Where should I report suspicious emails seemingly from WordPress?

    I received a suspicious email that locked up my email program, and in the body of the email it isn’t addressed to my username or email – it’s addressed to another username entirely. Where should I report it? Or does anyone report these things?

    No.

    Without more information, it is not going to be possible to give you any guidance. What did the email say? Who was it addressed to? What was the return address?

    The email’s fairly innocuous:

    You see, though, that it’s addressed to ‘reedtyack’ – which is odd – but also, every time I try to view it, it locks up my Outlook for almost a minute. I’m just finding it weird, but maybe I’m just overly suspicious. *shrug*

    Hi @randomnexus,

    Thanks for letting us know about the email you received addressed to the incorrect name. We recently updated some of email settings, and a small error caused a few people to get messages addressed to the wrong username.

    It was caused by a simple glitch. There are no security issues — your settings haven’t changed, your site hasn’t been hacked, your password is secure, and everything is now a-okay.

    I wouldn’t have thought much of it – accidents do happen – if it hadn’t been for the odd behavior of my email program every time I opened that particular email. However, glad to hear it’s been handled and there’s nothing nefarious afoot.

    @Randomnexus – yes, how it affected your email program is indeed odd. I’m not sure what’s going on there. Nothing was compromised though, and you shouldn’t experience this again. Sorry about that!
