Where the heck is the comment regulation button?

  • Unknown's avatar

I know it’s here somewhere. That little thingamajiggie that lets you decide if you want the comments waiting for moderation or published asap or published but still having to wait for moderation… thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Gigi – Dashboard >> Settings >> Discussion is what you are after, I believe.

    That’s right.

    @gigi

On that Discussion page scroll down to here:
    Before a comment appears
__Before a comment appears An administrator must always approve the comment
__Comment author must have a previously approved comment
    “save changes”

Blowing you kisses… but howcome someone just left me one and it published without me approving it. I’ve got it set to “administrator must always approve the comment,” which always works.

If you have a second, send me a hello. Also curious what it says to you when you send a comment. Does it say anything or does the page just stay the same?

    THANK YOU
    GRACIAS
    MERCI BOO COO

oh that was for Tea but whoever has time. This is not a priority… ;-)

    @gigisanchez
Are you sure you click “save changes” after making your selection? I just left a test comment and it posted instantly. Maybe you ought to go back to the Discussion page and check all your settings on it.

Also, there is the chance that the comment was in the system and on the way before your change at settings > discussion was logged.

SacredPath! Hi there… last time I heard from you, you were moving to Hawaii… how goes it?

TT –yours came up (thank you) but I did have to approve it. That’s wierd that it went through on your end b/c on my end, it didn’t. I saved it now. Maybe I changed something.

I’m curious –when a comment has to be approved before it ever even shows (as opposed to going through and then saying “waiting for moderation,” what does it say on the reader’s end– does it say anything at all or do you just sit there with the same page after entering?

It goes well and I’m loving living in Hawaii.

In most themes when moderation is turned on (maybe all themes now), when the visitor clicks the submit button, they will see their comment and it will have a heading that says it is awaiting moderation.

  • Unknown's avatar

Even if the comment is not supposed to appear until it is moderated?

ps: Which island are you on?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’m on the Big Island.

If moderation was not on, and the comment was in the system before your setting change was registered, that comment could have slipped though.

  • Unknown's avatar

That’s the one I’ve never been on -that and Molokai, though I did go on a motorboat up real close to Molokai.

    Re: the button
I’m sorry if I’m not explaining myself clearly. What I’m trying to say is –when moderation IS on, if it’s on where your comment won’t post until it is seen by the administrator, then what will you see on the screen regarding your comment –anything or will the screen just stay the same?

    THANKS

…about to sign off for good again…

    The visitor:

In most themes when moderation is turned on (maybe all themes now), when the visitor clicks the submit button, they will see their comment and it will have a heading that says it is awaiting moderation.

You: In the dashboard there will be a black circle with the number of comments needing moderation in it in the left navigation. In the “right now” module in the dashboard main page, you will also see the number of comments needing moderation. In the comments module on the dashboard main page there will also be an alert as the background color for all comments needing moderation will be a different color.

Got ya. So when someone tells you they sent a comment but you did not receive it, is it *possible* that you accidentally spammed them? THANKS

I miss the humpback whales. They are so beautiful and they sing. Saw a mom and a baby up close and the baby kept peeking at us.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, they could have gotten caught in the spam filter, or you could have accidentally spammed them.

I’m partial to the BI. Being the youngest and still being “born” there is an aliveness about it that the other islands do not have. Kaua’i, and Maui are incredibly beautiful, but I don’t sense that aliveness like I do here. Oahu? Beautiful, but too many people.

There is one place I frequent that sits right on the ocean and I can watch the humpbacks breach about a quarter mile off shore.

  • Unknown's avatar

OK, you answered my question. Last one, I promise… If I did accidentally spam them, what would they see on their screen when they went to comment –would it say they were spammed or would it say nothing at all?

You know what –I was doing some research on the tetragrmaton (the name of God in the bible) …YHWH… and I think that the word comes from ‘hwh’ which is supposed to be ‘hawah’ -kind of like Hawaii. And it means “to breathe.” And it turns out that Hawaii means “the breath of life.”

Such a nice way to describe it. It’s the youngest island and it’s still being born –why is that, b/c of the volcanoes?

  • Unknown's avatar

It they were tagged by Akismet as a spammer, when they submit their comment, they would see nothing. Their comment will just disappear. You would then have to “unspam” it in the Akismet folder.

Yes, in Hawaiian, “ha” is the breath of life and is part of one of the traditional greeting where you touch foreheads, look into each others eyes, and each take, I believe three breaths, and share the breath of life.

The volcanoes most definitely have a lot to do with that feeling of aliveness.

OK, sacredpath… Thanks for your help. Going to go off into my life now and probably won’t be back online for a long time. I’ve got a lot of writing to do and a deadline that is calling me… to… my sacred path. ;-)

    Bye everybody

Best of luck and you are welcome.
