Where the (HELL) is Appearance "tab" in shoreditch?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Unacceptable..
I need to access the Appearance tab in my theme to add my site tracker (& edit some CSS/etc, as things are not allowing me to change certain fonts/content) & there is NO freaking Appearance tab?!

I know NOW why I avoided WordPress for SO long..even Blogger, OR Tumblr actually allows you to edit your code right at the source..since there are some people who actually know (& learnt to hand-code in notepad from scratch) HTML, and want FULL control over their site?

AND..since I will have to change my theme @ some pt here…
Can you tell me what themes have the Appearance tab NOT turned off, so I don’t waste my time looking thru 100’s of themes..& again designing my entire site in a theme, *& then have to re-do it entirely if/when I have to change to a theme that actually supports FULL functionality?!

Yah..I’m more than a lil annoyed..
    Thanks in advance,
    Michelle.

    Hi There,

If you wish to edit theme CSS then you need to have upgraded WordPress.com plan,
there are three types of plan Personal, Premium and, Business.
Premium and Business plan allows you edit theme CSS

If you choose to go with Premium or Business plan you can upgrade your website and you also get a free custom domain name
    i.e a domain name without ending .wordpress.com

    Please read these support docs
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/

    Hope this will help.

If you do not wish to purchased an upgraded plan then see here Moving to self hosted wordpress http://wordpress.com

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

Thanks for the copy & paste answers (same exact answer as on about 10 posts I came across when I searched in forum, before posting my question). :(

How about some original thought..& creative, constructive answers that address my questions & concerns, & actually solve my problem(s).
I know it’s novel now-a-days..but let’s go ole skool..& give it a solid go, eh?

And sorry for the snark, but 1st question I’ve posted, & it’s disappointing to see this..

    BTW..
IF I wanted to upgrade right now, I’d already have done that.

I will (or may do so) in the future, but I’m first testing the platform to determine IF I EVEN want my site here..
..so far it’s NOT looking good if there is NO free option, or theme that has the APPEARANCE tab enabled, so I can simply add my tracker code in..
It’s literally one line of code.

Seems crazy, as I have used Tumblr, Blogger (& a few others/custom), & NEVER had this issue.. EVER.

WordPress..so far is NOT impressing me.

Thank you for reading my copy and paste correct answer to your question.

IF I wanted to upgrade right now, I’d already have done that.

There is no free option for editing CSS and if you read the relevant support docs I linked to that will now be clear to you.

    Best wishes.

The only themes we can use on WordPress.COM hosted sites are here https://wordpress.com/themes/ The way your theme is designed to function and the features it has are found at the detailed description page, for example at https://wordpress.com/theme/twentyseventeen and that’s where the live demo site link is also found. We cannot change how any wordpress.COM theme functions. We can do some CSS editing to change appearance only if we have the required upgrade.

WordPress.COM is a multi user blogging platform with off the shelf themes and it’s aimed for use by those who do not code. Each theme is uniquely designed. We wordpress.com bloggers do not have access to the template files underlying our themes and we cannot edit them, as our blogs share a common architecture, and as all blogs wearing the same theme use the same underlying template, found on the live demo site for each theme.

Does Customize let me edit HTML?
No. Customize allows you to edit fonts, colors, and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup or PHP code. If you require this functionality, please consider moving your blog to a web host that supports theme code modifications. You can read more about why here http://support.wordpress.com/code/, and find a suitable host here http://get.wp.com/hosting/.

r theme that has the APPEARANCE tab enabled, so I can simply add my tracker code in..
It’s literally one line of code.

There is no metadata access to wordpress.COM hosted sites and we cannot access and add anything to the <header>. WordPress.COM users have code restrictions. No JavaScript, no form codes, except these https://en.support.wordpress.com/forms/contact-form https://en.support.wordpress.com/forms/, no tracking codes, no advertising codes, and no unsupported embeds of unsupported iframes can be used on any wordpress.COM hosted sites.

Hi Michelle, given the structure of this multi-user platform, editing of theme files is not allowed since everyone shares the same files. We do offer the ability to edit theme files, and install plugins with the WordPress.com Business plan upgrade, but not on any other plan.

If you need to install plugins, or add code to a theme, and do not want to upgrade to the Business plan, you may want to consider self-hosting your own installation of the WordPress software on a different web host which would allow you complete and total control.

If you have content here that you want to transfer, you do have the ability to export your content and then import it into a self-hosted installation. For more information on doing that, see this support page.

If you have further questions, please let me know.

You can access the appearance tab by going to the WP Admin dashboard. Here is a direct link to your WP Admin dashboard.
