Where to post feedback about FSE?

  • Unknown's avatar

Howdy! The title is the question. I do not see an option of giving feedback in the site editor beta as indicated in this support guide https://wordpress.com/support/full-site-editing-beta/#how-to-give-feedback

In case it is here: I’d really like to see Revisions come to templates. At the moment, I can’t get back to an earlier version of a template unless I can remember what it was. That’s a bit of a challenge honestly and a solid hindrance to experimentation.

If there’s another way to do this, please share. TIA

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Jennifer,

I checked on a test user account, and I don’t see it there either, but I checked with our team and they say it should still be visible.

Can you confirm for me, if you load the site editor, does it show a WP-Admin URL in the browser, or does it show https://wordpress.com/site-editor/{site_address}? It appears the WP-Admin version doesn’t have the feedback form, and that’s intended. But we shouldn’t be getting redirected to WP-Admin…

I’d really like to see Revisions come to templates.

It looks like an issue for this already exists over at WordPress.org, and it’s being discussed there. Of course I can’t say when it will be implemented, but hopefully soon :)

Hi Herman, definitely not the link I’m getting.

The link I have at Appearance>Editor (Beta) in my above site’s dashboard is https://my100dayproject2022.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=gutenberg-edit-site

Generally speaking, I work in WP Admin dashboard on all my sites; perhaps that is the source of the issue?

Understood, but is there any suggested workflow/workaround?

    Thanks again

Yeah, using wp-admin seems to be the problem. 😒

I ran a few tests myself and the only way I could get the full site editor where the feedback link showed was:

    1. Switch to the default (non-wp-admin) view.
    2. Go to Appearance -> Themes and click the “Edit” button as shown here: https://d.pr/i/SAvsk6

Regardless if you’re using the default view or the wp-admin view, the link in the Appearance menu takes you to the “wp-admin” version of the site editor (and therefore not having that feedback link). I’ve passed that along to the team to make sure those links are consistent and go to the correct editor URL – especially since we do want feedback. We don’t need to make it more difficult to do so.

In the meantime, that above workaround SHOULD work.

Hi Carolyn, let me see if I can follow along here:

Now that I have the default/wpcom dashboard set at Appearance>Themes, I see the Edit button (rather than Customize) and clicking that does take me to https://wordpress.com/site-editor/my100dayproject2022.wordpress.com where the feedback button is displayed.

So for now: to access the Site Editor feedback button, click the Edit button found on the default/wpcom version of the Appearance>Themes page. Got it. Thanks.

Looking forward to seeing template revisions. It is quite nerve wracking otherwise.

Yep, just for now. The team has a bug report filed for that and should be fixing things soon.

    Same here! :)

    Sorry for my impatience.

Regardless of accessing the Site Editor through the Edit button on the Appearance>Themes dashboard, I am consistently being redirected to WP Admin where there is no feedback form.

Currently the Site Editor by default opens my site homepage with a “This Block contains unexpected or invalid content. Attempt block recovery” message as I’m using a Media/Text block on the homepage.

Any suggestions to approach this differently? TIA

  • Hi @justjennifer,

Regardless of accessing the Site Editor through the Edit button on the Appearance>Themes dashboard, I am consistently being redirected to WP Admin where there is no feedback form.

If I understand correctly, you’re visiting Appearance → Themes and then clicking on the Edit button, shown here?

And this is taking you to the site editor within wp-admin, rather than the https://wordpress.com/site-editor/my100dayproject2022.wordpress.com link that you shared earlier?

If yes, a screencast would be helpful so we can see it in action. Here’s how:

Can you please upload the file using https://send.vis.ee/ and share the transfer link with us?

For reference, here’s where to look for that feedback button after clicking on the edit button:

Going Appearance → Editor will take you to the wp-admin version of the site editor, though it’s curious that you’re being redirected to the wp-admin version regardless.

Currently the Site Editor by default opens my site homepage with a “This Block contains unexpected or invalid content. Attempt block recovery” message as I’m using a Media/Text block on the homepage.

You’re right, in both cases I see the block error as well. Does attempting block recovery work to resolve that issue?

  • @justjennifer, it looks like this issue has already been reported: https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/60591

You can still share the screencast if you like, or keep an eye on the issue to see if that resolves it for you. Thanks for your patience and heads up on this!

Hi again, Thanks for that link to the github repo.

And this is taking you to the site editor within wp-admin, rather than the https://wordpress.com/site-editor/my100dayproject2022.wordpress.com link that you shared earlier?

That button takes me to https://wordpress.com/site-editor/my100dayproject2022.wordpress.com as I mentioned above. If I then click on the Page link at the top of that Site Editor screen to navigate to templates, I land in WP Admin.

However, I did switch my Posts dashboard to the default/WPcom version and so far today I’m consistently staying in https://wordpress.com/site-editor/my100dayproject2022.wordpress.com

I’ll try to grab a screencast later if still relevant.

As far as the homepage opening in the Site Editor with the block error message, I generally ignore or leave that screen without saving. Noting that the block error does not occur when I open the page in the regular Page Editor (not Site).

  • I’m a little confused. It seems like the only problem now is that you’re getting a block error on your homepage when accessing the Site Editor? I understand you do not see that error when you edit your homepage directly?

  • Unknown's avatar

staff-mckluskey I’ve activated Twenty Twenty-Two several times in consideration of switching themes, and also consistently see the aforementioned “This Block contains unexpected or invalid content. Attempt block recovery” message – on my homepage when accessing via Site Editor.

  • Hi there,

Several Happiness Engineers have been able to replicate the This Block contains unexpected or invalid content. Attempt block recovery message and we’re definitely looking into this error as well. In the interim, clicking the Attempt Block Recovery button fixes the issue whenever it pops up from our end, though. Are you seeing the same?

  • Unknown's avatar

TBH, I have not tried to attempt recovery while in the Site Editor, since the Site Editor deals with the template and not the content of the page itself. Perhaps I’m misunderstanding this?

As I mentioned above, the page in question, my homepage, loads without error when opening from the regular Page dashboard.

  • the Site Editor deals with the template and not the content of the page itself. Perhaps I’m misunderstanding this?

You are misunderstanding, but so’s almost everyone else, myself included :D

In the site editor you can modify both the template, and the page content. If you make changes to the page content in the site editor, when you update you should see a prompt asking if you want to update the template, the page, or both.

(Of course, you can also wind up adding content to the template itself, meaning that content appears on every page using the template, so it’s more than a little confusing. The developers are aware of the confusion both users and HEs have experienced in this regard, so hopefully this process will improve in future iterations of the editor.)

Doing a block recovery in the site editor shouldn’t modify your page content, though, but just force the block to reload the code – in my understanding, in this case it’s akin to banging the side of the television because the picture is fuzzy (ah, those were the days…)

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, that is a bit confusing. Thanks for the explanation. LOL – good analogy. :D

  • good analogy

Though it will make no sense at all to the majority of people on the web these days :D
