    Hi Julica,

WordPress.com does not currently support Google Analytics tracking. However, we do offer built-in statistics showing you most of the same types of information as Google Analytics would display.

You can view your site’s stats by going to your Stats page here: http://wordpress.com/my-stats/

To find out more about how stats are measured and reported, see the following help page: Stats

You can also install Google Webmaster Tools, which contains some of the same functions as Google Analytics: Webmaster Tools

Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Hi Rachel, thanks so much for your reply. Yes I know about the stats and The Webmaster Tools where the ones I was trying to install, since they were offered under my wordpress dashboard/tools/Google Webmaster/ Website verification Service…
Someonetold me this is important for tracking and SEO. And since it was on the wordpress site, I thought it must be possible. When I follow the intstructions I end up on a step where I’m asked to upload the verification code one my site. But I don’t know how to do that and read about 30 Forums about it without any clue how to do it still. If you could tell me how to “upload this verification code” I’d be eternally grateful
    all the best Julica

    Hi Julica,

Since WordPress.com doesn’t support Google Analytics tracking, there isn’t a way to upload the verification code to your WordPress.com site. That’s only possible if you have a self-hosted WordPress site using the WordPress.org software. You can read about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org

However, if your main concerns are tracking and SEO, I want to assure you that WordPress.com has you covered there. :) You don’t need to use Google Analytics — we have more information about how we help your site’s SEO in these articles:

    Hi Rachel,
well, I do have a self-hosted WordPress site and on that WordPress dashboard of mine WordPress offers me the Google Webmaster tool. And I’d love to understand how to use it…
So far the optimization doesnt seem to work at all since even the easiest and most obvious google search terms never lead to my site…

    Hi Julica,

You can manage your Google Webmaster Tools here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

Google also has a help center with information about using Webmaster Tools here: https://support.google.com/webmasters/

For example, you might want to check out the content keywords and search queries sections of their webmaster tools. That will tell you more about what keywords Google sees on your site, and what searches people are using to get to your site.

Please let me know if I can provide any further help with this. :)

Hi Rachel, thanks for trying to help, I’m probably not very good at expressing myself clearly, sorry…
Yes, I’ve been on the Google Webmaster Tool page that you mention many many times, and also on the related support pages. But NO ONE tells you HOW to do Step 2 which is: UPLOAD THE TRACKING CODE ON YOUR SITE.
Since I don’t know how to upload this code and where it is useless and it’s useless to have it in the WordPress Dashboard as well….
    cheers jUlica

    Hi Julica,

Sorry about that! I thought you were trying to upload the Google Analytics code, which we don’t support. If you’re trying to set up Google Webmaster Tools, we have a guide for that here: Webmaster Tools

If you have any questions about those steps, please let me know!
