Which domain renewal/expiry notice shall I believe?!

My domain is set to renew automatically; yet i am getting a message that says it will cease to function on 10/17/2012 unless i renew. Which shall i believe?!!!
I’m fine with renewing it ‘by hand.’ Just curious why I’m getting both messages . . . and of course would love to just have it continue automatically!!

Where are you seeing those messages? Spammers will email you and demand a hundred bucks to renew the domain…don’t fall for that. The dashboard will tell you when things are expiring. Just look on the My Upgrades page.

Thanks, Raincoaster. It’s actually through the dashboard that I’m getting two different messages. Under ‘Domains’ it tells me that URL will cease functioning on 10/17/12. However, when I follow the link to ‘renew domain’ it takes me to a page (https://writinginsidevt.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains&action=renew&id=478940) that says two things:
At the top – that it needs to be renewed.
At the bottom – that it will automatically renew annually unless told otherwise.Moreover – when I try to access the page to update my credit card info (that site has three upgrades), I can find no way to get there. Although the card is updated via the other avenues.
??
Perhaps I should just ignore the ‘will automatically renew’ and go ahead and do it manually??

To clarify – the ‘My Upgrades’ page will NOT allow me to update the credit card info for the Custom Design package; nor does it allow me to renew the soon-to-expire domain.
