Which platform is best for a database?
-
Which is a better CMS system? WordPress.com or wordpress.org? I am wanting to redesign my current website: centralcoastfamilysource.com so that I have total control and don’t have to find a developer. I am not clear which WP product will house data. Please advise.

For that sort of use, you are probably going to want to look into WordPress.org. WordPress.com isn’t really set up to be a CMS integrated into an existing website.

Thank you for your response. I want to create a completely new site, not migrate into the existing site. Does what you said still hold true?

My question to you would be, how familiar are you with the layout and look of what you can create with WordPress.com? WordPress is an outstanding platform as far as I am concerned. I used it for years in multiple ways before I ever worked here.
That having been said, WordPress.com itself has some limitations that may or may not make it a great fit as compared to a self-hosted WordPress site or a standard non-WordPress site. It also has some amazing advantages.
Looking at your current website, I would think that WordPress.com would be a good fit. However, if there is any aspect of your site functionality that is particularly important to you (widgets, plugins, revenue generation, ecommerce, etc), you should double check that WordPress.com offers it.

what I need is an active, searchable event calendar that is not a google calendar. i also need a database that can house the businesses that i work with and the ability to feature them the way i want to. there is no ecommerce. i can’t figure out where on WP.com where i could even begin to find these options. i am assuming that i need to go hosted, but i want to keep things simple and searchable.

Sadly, it sounds like WordPress.com will not work for you. Thanks for giving us a try however.
