Which Setting do I use…?

When you get to the home page, it shows all my posts in full form. I do not want the posts fully “open,” rather I’d like the first paragraph or just a few sentences, whatever, showing when you get to my page. A summary as it were. I’d like people to have to click a button which says, say, “Click here to continue reading…” so it takes them to the actual page of the post where they can comment and like, etc.
So, I went to Settings > Reading, and I found an option stating,
“For each article in a feed, show (Full text) (Summary).”
So, last night, I clicked on summary, saved it, and went to my home page only to find that the full post was still showing.
My question, then, is this: What do I need to do make this so?
