Which site is which?

I was attempting to set up jetpack with my main website. When I went to do this, it was saying I already had a wordpress.com account. I am really confused. I have a site WeatherForecastSolutions.com which I use I update using wordpress but is hosted with justhost.

I think I created a separate blog in 2016 under weatherforecastsolutions.wordpress.com. If I delete the WeatherForecastSolutions.wordpress.com, will that delete the main site (WeatherForecastSolutions.com) or are they entirely not connected.

  • Hi there,

WeatherForecastSolutions.com and weatherforecastsolutions.wordpress.com are different sites, so if you were to delete either, it shouldn’t affect the other. WeatherForecastSolutions.com appears to have a Jetpack installed although the plugin is having connection issues. Do you currently have Jetpack activated?

So I did install it with a plugin on WeatherForecastSolutions.com, but I accidentally connected the jetpack account to WeatherForecastSolutions.wordpress.com.

I want to be able to use the jetpack username, WxForecastSolns to connect to the WeatherForecastSolutions.com site.

so would I just delete WeatherForecastSolutions.wordpress.com site, and that should allow me to keep the same jetpack username “WxForecastSolns” to connect to the WeatherForecastSolutions.com site?

THANK You so much for your help!!!

  • You can safely delete your WordPress.com site without affecting the Jetpack connection.

Once I delete the wordpress.com site, will that freeup the Jetpack username and associated email address to be used for the main site (weatherforecastsolutions.com)?

  • You can already use that username with the Jetpack site if you want to, there is no limit to how many sites you can have connected to one account.

Thank you both so much. I was able to activate it through the site I want (even though it shows a different email address – ?).

I will go ahead and delete the wordpress.com site with confidence in knowing it won’t affect my main site.

I want to be able to use an installed Windows version of wordpress to write my posts, instead of doing it through the wordpress login site. It seemed jetpack was the only way to accomplish this.

I keep running into issues when trying to start a post where the “blocks” are producing errors that states “This block has an error and cannot be previewed” When I try to put it into “classic” mode, the toolbar keeps popping up and disappearing when I type anything.

Is there another method to writing blog posts that can circumnavigate these issues?

  • Are you able to write posts in the site’s Dashboard without the same error?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, but these errors are occurring when I use the dashboard option.
I go to “posts”, ‘add a new post” and that screen where you would write the new posts gives me the error blocks.

Okay wait…back to the original problem… with jetpack set up. When i go through the dashboard of the main site (weatherforecastsolutions) and I click to activate… it’s connecting to the old wordpress.com site. I can tell this by the “connections” settings in dashboard. The site and account connection is the old wordpress.com site.

If I delete the old wordpress.com site now, will I still be able to respond to this thread?

  • Please try disconnecting Jetpack from WordPress.com at Jetpack > Dashboard > Site Connection > Manage Site Connection in your site’s Dashboard, then connect again to the desired account when prompted.

That is not an option when I log into wordpress.com.

I see jetpack, and then “activity log” and “backup”.

Would an easier work around be to change the username and email address in wordpress.com, and then delete the wordpress.com site. Would that effectively allow me to use the same username and email address on the new site to connect to jetpack?

  • No, in your site’s Dashboard, not WordPress.com.

What is the URL of the site you’re working with right now?

Ugh, I’m sorry making this harder than it probably needs to be. I understand what you do mean.

    A brief background:

#1) The site I want to keep active and install/activate jetpack is http://www.WeatherForecastSolutions.com. This is my main site.

#2) The site I want to completely discard and release from jetpack is weatherforecastsolutions.wordpress.com. This was a test run a few years ago and is no longer used.

When I try to connect jetpack to the site I want (#1), it connects it to site #2. When I go to the wordpress dashboard for site #2, there is no option to disconnect jetpack. So far, I have deactivated jetpack in #1, deleted it, and cleared the cache.

Ultimately I want to install jetpack username “WxForecastSolns” to site #1.

  • The site I want to completely discard and release from jetpack is weatherforecastsolutions.wordpress.com. This was a test run a few years ago and is no longer used.

    Can you do this?

    Go to https://wordpress.com/settings

You should be able to remove the site completely there.

The other site is not currently connected, so can you try reconnecting it after that?

  • Unknown's avatar

Just to be clear, you are referring to “deleting” the site correct? There doesn’t seem to be an option to just “disconnect” the site.

  • That doesn’t make much sense.

Would you please share a screenshot of that via https://snipboard.io/ ?

Here is the dashboard screenshot from the weatherforecastsolutions.wordpress.com account:

    Notice no jetpack.

But if I go to wordpress.com/settings, you’ll notice that jetpack is listed there (with only activity log and backup as options). see screenshot below.
