Which way for a technodumbo to begin

I will be setting up a bilingual non-profit. The website/blog looks like a great option but as I I in place but not yet ready to go (perhaps not for another year) I’m not sure whether to start with the website straight away, or whether to begin with a blog, get that going (as you will see, I wasn’t very focussed or regular before). And if I did that, could I then add the blog to a website?
I am no longer the maidinthemarsh having completely relocated. But do want to insert links back into it, or extract from it then archive it.

    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

  • Hi there maidinthemarsh,

Website or blog — it’s a great question! I’d say start by writing down what you want to say. You can even do that in a text editor so you don’t have to think about page or site or anything technical. You’ll copy and paste later.

Now look at the content and ask yourself: what would work well as an article? What contains timely information, or news, or just one article in a series of others that you’ll release over time? Those should be blog posts.

What of the content is really pretty specific and unlikely to change much — or if it does change, the links won’t change? Stuff like About & Contact, for example. Those should be pages.

If the content you come up with is pages, make a site without blog posts. You can work on your blog content and add that in later.

If they are mostly the sort of things you’d see in a newspaper or magazine, vs a book, you probably have a site that will primarily be a blog. And you can have static pages on that too as needed.

Does that help? We do have a few guides for getting started here, plus a daily webinar:
