white around colored siderbar
-
When I go into preview (haven’t bought the CSS upgrade yet), I’ve been able to change the color of my post and sidebar text background, but I can’t change the white panel that remains around the sidebar. Is this just a preview quirk and will it go away when I buy the CSS, or is there something in the stylesheet that I’m not finding? If anyone knows their way around the stylesheet and can point me in the right direction, I’d be thrilled! So far, I’ve found everything I desire to change, and am quite exited to go forward. It’s the last horizon! http://theshepherdschild.wordpress.com
Thanks!!!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Where is the white panel? Only you can see your previewed changes. Can you get a screenshot and see if we can figure it out that way?
-
Thank you so much for replying! I haven’t figured out the screenshot thing yet, but the panel is in between the blogpost background text edge and the text edge in the sidebar. There’s a 1/2-3/4 inch bar of white in between the two, and then it wraps around the bottom of the sidebar and goes to the bottom of the blog.

I still don’t see any modifications except for the header image and still can’t visualize what part of the disply you’re referring to. If you want to post only the CSS you’ve modified I’ll pop it into my test blog. I assume you’ve been using to ‘add to’ option, not the ‘start from scratch.’
Please post the code between backticks. The backtick looks like this ` and is on the key to the left of the number 1.

I’m trying hard to figure out how to take the screenshot and send it out, no luck. How do I do it?
In the CSS preview, all I’ve modified are a few color codes in a few places. It’s all I want to change on my blog when I buy the CSS. I’m using the ‘add to’ option. Should I cut and paste the few areas I’ve changed?
And thank you. If I can solve this, I’ll be satisfied enough with my blog while I keep editing to let my friends know about it!

From a CSS standpoint, Kubrick is a nightmare and not for the faint of heart when it comes to modifying the CSS.
The background for the post/sidebar area is a GIF file and it extends out into the grey area at the sides. This is the background image for the post area: http://s2.wordpress.com/wp-content/themes/default/images/kubrickbg.gif and it is located here ” #page ” in the CSS. You can temporarily change the ” background: ” to ” none; ” to see what all it includes. You can also click on the link to the image to see what it looks like. To see the extents of the GIF, change ” background ” temporarily to “red”.
This is a screen shot of the background being set as “red” to show you the extents: http://allhatnocattle.wordpress.com/files/2009/04/kubrick-1.png

@tsp – You’re right about Kubrick and it’s also very old.
I saw a gif that runs below the sidebar but it’s white and blue. On my screen. :(

Kubrick was definitely a grade school science project. K2, which is actually by the same designer, and was meant as a replacement for Kubrick, is a far better design. Probably done in high school. :-)

You folks are wonderful, I am so grateful for your time….and boo hoo, I do like my Kubrick but am willing to shift to another template if it will really make a difference!
On that note, I’ve fooled with almost EVERY template, activated a bunch and keep on going back to Kubrick. The things I am attached to are simplicity of look (Kubrick looks like a piece of paper with no line between the sidebar and post), NO page tabs on the header, and custom header for photo. If I can add some color beyond that with CSS, I could make peace with something else.
Can I get rid of those page tabs on a template? I just want a list at the side.
K2 was okay, except for those page tabs at top. I like Neat as well, but I’ve used it for our farm site, but that was before I was brave enough to fool with CSS. Maybe Neat with new colors?
Should I dare to change at this point? I’m going to go template hunting again till I hear from someone…and thank you, thank you, thank you!

WoW! Just activated Neat, and in two moves had the background and page colors in place….BOY are you right about it being easier! Maybe I should just change, should I take the plunge and buy the CSS? Then if I’m asking questions and taking your time, it won’t be wasted on preview stuff!
Had to peek at ellaella’s site too, glad to find that warning about pistachios, which enjoy a presence right next to me as I type!

Yes, the top navigation can be hidden in all themes.
Whether you change or not is of course up to you. Kubrick requires a lot more work because of the way it was designed originally.
-
Well, I am really pleased with Neat, but lost my header and the dividing lines with flowers in the sidebar and the sidebar/content dividing line (which I like in this template). If I buy the CSS, I’ve got the info to put back in the header photo (thank you sacredpath), if it works the way I expect it to.
Can anyone identify the code for the divider lines?
I’m going to see if I can figure out how to buy my CSS rights in the meantime…eeks!
I’d LOVE to have someone who’d like to get paid to spend an hour on the phone with me and set this up once and for all! Do people ever do that? Blog people I mean, not website people…
-
You will have to correct the URL for the flower divider. In the original CSS it uses a “relative” URL (images/h2.gif) and you will have to put in the full URL which is: http://s3.wordpress.com/wp-content/themes/pub/neat/images/h2.gif . It’s in #sidebar h2.
-
Okay, I see I’ve missed a lot while I was having a life. :) The site looks good and I see the dividing lines in the sidebar. So is the CSS bought and paid for now?
Thanks for stopping by my blog, bellwetherfarm, and I’m glad you found some useful information. (That theme looked very different when I installed it.)
@tsp – You are, as always, the best!
