Hi
Can you help me change a default setting in the Twenty Ten theme? The back grond (where all the text is) is white, and I really want to change the colour.
Can you help me with a CSS code??

Hello.
I came in to the forum(s) with the same intention: To determine whether the colour of the WHITE centre column in the Twenty-Ten theme [ as noted above: where the text for all posts is located ] can be changed … [ ? ]
By WordPress definitions the “background” colour can be changed/set. For my “background” I am presently using a fixed image that is predominantly black with a dark-grey thistle pattern, but I can not ascertain whether [ even with the UPGRADE that ] the Twenty-Ten theme would permit that WHITE CENTRE column to be made BLACK—either through selection from a palette, or through CSS.
The link above, courteously posted by Timethief, does not appear to provide answer to this specific question. Therefore, again, in repetition:
(1.) Can a user change the colour in the centre of the page [ where posts display ] IN THE TWENTY-TEN theme [ not meaning the BORDER of the page, which WordPress qualifies as the “background” ]?(2.) If that CAN be achieved, but only after the purchase of an UPGRADE, is that change accomplished by colour palette or ONLY through CSS?
Thank you for any reply.

@krber09:
Add this and replace 456789 with the hex for the color you prefer:#wrapper { background-color: #456789; }@yeveneficialgentyllman:
A border is a line or a bar of fixed thickness at one or more than one side of an element. For example, the black lines top and bottom of the header image and the black line top of the footer on 2010 are borders. What you called a border is a background alright: it’s the color or image that’s placed behind the whole theme. The theme is centered in relation to the browser window, and it’s not transparent, so you only see the parts of the bg that aren’t covered by the theme. The theme has a fixed pixel width while screen resolutions vary, so the higher your screen resolution the more of the bg you get to see left and right of the theme. On low resolution screens or narrow mobile devices you see no bg at all.
So: as you already know, in Appearance > Background you can change that bg only. Changing the bg to the content of the theme requires the Custom Design upgrade. And no, it can’t be accomplished by colour palette: selecting a color palette in Appearance > Customize > Colors (when you have the upgrade) changes the bg to the theme, the colors of the top menu, and the link color. To change the bg of the content area you use coding in the CSS editor. Apart from setting a fully opaque color other than white, you can also make the content area semi-transparent (colored or not) or even fully transparent, so that the bg image shows through.
But note that if you want the content area black or very dark, the code I showed to krber09 won’t be enough: you’ll need several other changes to make the text more legible.
If you don’t have the upgrade, I would suggest you simply switch to a theme that supports a black scheme, for example Twenty Eleven, or maybe a dark transparent theme, for example Modularity Lite. -

Thank you, Justpi.
I intend to obtain the upgrade predicated upon the FACT that I would, thereafter, be enabled to decidedly change the content area colour to BLACK.
More questions if you would, please:
I am thoroughly unfamiliar with CSS & my ignorance intimidates me from attempting the changes when I could muck the scene up miserably.Nevertheless, whatever CSS code changes the content area to BLACK …, could I not, thereafter, change all the colours of my TEXTS in all posts MANUALLY [ as I had coloured them initially as blackest black &/or red ]? What I would, thereafter, change to a grey & leave reds as they were. Wouldn’t that qualify the necessary ‘work’ [ tedious though the process would be ]?
What code(s) are required to change the content area to BLACK? Perhaps, that answer is too elaborate; therefore, is there a WordPress area through which one may educate oneself how to learn all necessary CSS coding?
Or is that instruction gleaned only from internet searching?
What code you indicated to krber09:
#wrapper {background-color: #456789;}
is quite enigmatic to me. That code seems to address changing the background colour, but precisely where that code is placed in the mass of code that I should encounter & how to access that code [ sans upgrade ] remains a mystery.
Furthermore, you seem very much to have suggested that my objective will qualify many more lines of CSS code & what I assume shall be a fair working knowledge of CSS, which I, again, am ignorant about.
Distended though my questions may be I hope they are not burdensome. Once I have a sufficient outline of the topography I think I can successfully endeavour the changes via the upgrade.
Thank you, or an other, for further reply.

You’re welcome.
• You don’t encounter any mass of code in the CSS editor: the editor will contain only the changes you make.
• The Custom Design upgrade allows you to change the color (and not only the color) of any element.
• So when you have the upgrade you don’t need to change the color of the text for each and every post manually: you do it once for all via CSS editing.
• If you wish to preview the way things work, and the change you’re not sure about, go to Appearance > Customize > CSS, delete the whole intro message, and paste this:#wrapper { background-color: #000000; }• But I suggested a simpler, free, alternative: switch to a different theme. Try activating Twenty Eleven, for instance, then go to Appearance > Theme Options and select the “Dark” scheme.
