White Border Appears Around Image with Link
-
This is a problem that comes and goes. When I “add media” and put in an image (eg. social media icon), it first appears fine. Then, when I edit the image to become a link, this thin blank white border appears around it for no reason. It makes it look like a child did the website, and I can’t find any way to control it…this makes no sense. Does anyone know if this is a program bug? Or am I doing something wrong?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi –
I suspect this is how your theme is designed to work. The only image I see with that, is the novel one, on the home page? Is that what you’re describing?
-
No, it’s not how it’s intended to work. I was actually referring to a “buy now” and “like on Facebook” button, which I deleted while trying to resolve it. I’ve made the site “private,” because I can’t reopen it until I’ve resolved the issue.
Originally, this happened with the Instagram and Twitter logos in the footer widget. This was why I had to switch themes. Once in Lodestar, the problem didn’t come up for several weeks. Now, all of a sudden, it’s back.
At this point, I’ve noticed that the footer widget (with Instagram and Facebook) are still fine, as are new images that I add to it. But when I try either the SIDE WIDGET or the MAIN BODY of a page, it still does this. I will add them back to show you what I mean.

The instagram image you’re using here has a white background on it, so it stands out against the colored background in your footer.
Your site body is yellow, so white backgrounds would show against it, too. Is that what you’re referring to? If so, using PNGs with a transparency may help. If you’ll add an image and then update us here, we can take a look and make a recommendation.
I wanted to note, too, your theme has built-in social icons that look nice. Look at the footer here:
https://lodestardemo.wordpress.com/There’s a video here showing how to set that up:

I will look at those, thank you.
But I’m fine with that tiny white line on the image you just linked to…that looks natural, and blends fine in the footer.
I’m talking about BIG white lines that look out of place, and they come and go. The “buy now” and “like on FB” buttons on my main page should show those.

Also, you’ll see that the novel picture no longer has the white border around it. The original staff member (who responded this morning) said this was probably how it was supposed to work. And the second contributor said it could just be part of the icon. But neither is true, because the WHITE LINES ONLY APPEAR WHEN I MAKE IT A LINK. This HAS to be a defect.

Hi there,
This is not a defect it’s how that theme is designed. When you add a link to an image it ads a white border around it to differentiate it from other images.
I believe we could hide it with the use of some CSS code, but for that, you’ll need to upgrade to the Premium or Business plan as these are the only plans that allow that customization.
Alternatively, you can either use a different theme or a background color that blends better with the white border of the images.

Hmmm ok. I swore it didn’t do the same thing on that theme before. I’ve adjusted it to make it tolerable, but I do plan to upgrade to Premium…provided I’m able to control these things. Thanks.

You’ll definitely be able to remove that border using custom CSS on the Premium Plan, yes.
