White overlay on Home page

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I have noticed there’s a white overlay over my Home page (not fully opaque, but it still “dims” the images and content on the Home page). This is not present in any other page of my website, so was wondering if someone could help me remove it?

    Thank you in advance,

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Good Morning –

I’ve taken a look at the site a few times, in different browsers, and I’m not seeing the white overlay. Is this still happening? I do see a highlight applied when I hover my cursor over Liane Music, but the opacity is actually dimmed, and there’s no white applied.

It will be helpful if you can take a screen shot of what you’re seeing and put that here in your reply.

The site looks great, btw! Are you planning to sell your music from the site as well? We can talk about how to set that up if you need help.

    Hi,

I tried uploading a few screenshots but I’m apparently unable to do so? Not sure why. In any case, this is how the Home page appears to me:

The images seem to have less opacity and have some sort of “white” overlay, I think.
This is how they’re supposed to look (from a different page within the website, where I have my music releases):

Sorry for the delay in replying as well, thanks for looking into this!

  • Thanks for the screenshots; the overlay technically comes from your theme (Lodestar) – it will change according to what background colour you’ve used.

What you could possibly do is check if a Lodestar “panel” can avoid the overlay. The Lodestar setup information is here:
    https://wordpress.com/theme/lodestar

It should be possible to set your homepage content into a panel by doing the following

    1. Create a new, blank page, and publish it.
    2. Set it as the new “home” page by going to Appearance > Customize > Homepage Settings
    3. Still within the Customizer, head over to the Theme Options section
    4. For Panel 1 in your Theme Options, try selecting your current/previous homepage
    5. Save the changes

Essentially Lodestar is applying some transparency to the designated “front page” content which gives the fading/overlay appearance, but it doesn’t seem to do that to the panels, so it could be worth testing.

One other alternative could be to upgrade to the Premium plan and use some custom CSS to remove that transparency – if you’d be interested in additional features offered by the Premium plan, then it could be an option too:

    Hi,

Yes, that fix worked, although it added a line at the top of the page, but it’s ok, I’ll be redesigning it soon, so will pick a new theme.

    Thank you!
