White Screen of Death
-
Hello, I am currently being faced with a blank white screen when trying to access the admin panel on my wordpress.com blog. I ve been told it’s likely a php error. However, that means absolutely nothing to me as I am not a ‘techie.’ But I am willing to learn if there is someone out there that could help me out?
I am now noticing a change in the url. There is a ‘the’ in front of waterfrontwire.wordpress.com where there never used to be prior to me being locked out. Perhaps I changed it accidentally, non?
All of the troubleshooting blogs seem to be geared towards wordpress.org. This really frustrating as I have lost control of a news blog that I have been nurturing for over three years. All of my momentum is at stake, any help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Elizabth

Hi there,
White screen errors are something that happens on self-hosted WordPress sites, not on WordPress.com.
http://waterfrontwire.com/ is not a WordPress.com site, but a self-hosted site using the WordPress.org software. It’s a completely different site from http://thewaterfrontwire.wordpress.com/
waterfrontwire.wordpress.com does not exist at all.
For help with fixing this error on the waterfrontwire.com site you’ll need to post in the self-hosted forums. That site is connected to your WordPress.com account here via the Jetpack plugin, but we have no access to that site’s dashboard, your hosting control panel or your server, so we’re not able to help you fix this. The users in the self-hosted forums will be able to tell you the steps you need to follow.
You can find the self-hosted forums at this link:

Thanks for responding.
Wow, the self-hosted site is something I put to bed 3 years ago. I’ve been using wp.com since then. I no longer have the passwords etc. for waterfrontwire.com. It seems strange that I’ve been on wp.com(thewaterfrontwire.wordpress.com) and am now cmpletely locked out. Perhaps somebody is screwing with it, non?
However, any further advice you have would be much appreciated.

The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/ If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click- Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/

Ok thanks. Lol, I haven’t used wp.ORG in over 3 years.
Any idea how I can get back into my wp.COM site? I was just on it a minute ago but when i click on any admin functions i am faced with a blank screen that features a lock icon beside the url. It’s at: thewaterfrontwire.wordpress.com

What I post below applies only to sites hosted by wordpress.COM.
You must be logged in under the exact same username that registered the site to be able to access the site. The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
*Replace NAME_OF_BLOG in that URL with the actual name of your blog.
I recommend bookmarking that link or memorizing it.
If you are not logged in under the correct username account then clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies and then login correctly under the relevant username account.
If the login information has been lost go to
https://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/#lost-passwordIf required use the account recovery form

Those two comment of yours directly contradict each other. In the first you say the site should be waterfrontwire.wordpress.com, and in the second you say it should be thewaterfrontwire.wordpress.com. So which is it?
waterfrontwire.wordpress.com doesn’t exist, as it has never been registered on WordPress.com, not by you, nor by anyone else.
thewaterfrontwire.wordpress.com belongs to the username you are using to post here, to the account you’re already logged in as, so if you click on My Sites in the top left corner of the screen and click on Switch Site, you should see it listed there. And you can access the WP-Admin dashboard directly via this link:
http://thewaterfrontwire.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
That site is set to private, so if you’ve disabled cookies in your browser it might not recognise you as logged in as the account that owns the site. Please check that you have third-party cookies enabled in your browser, and you should be able to access it.
