White Screen of Death, Locked Out of Console and FTP

I manage a WordPress website for a collegiate organization, and recently our site suffered from what I believe to be the white screen of death. The homepage, website.org, shows a blank white screen. Using the inspect function in the browser, the page appears to just be default HTML and CSS. All sub-directories, such as website.org/about, give 404 errors. Additionally, the WordPress admin login gives a 404 error so I can’t login to the website dashboard. I intended to try to access the website through FTP to manually turn off plugins or expand the memory limit, as either of these could be the issue. However, I don’t have an FTP login for the website as I did not know to make one when I took the website over, since the documentation was sparse and I’m new to web development. What options do I have from here to access the website? Is there some way by which an FTP login can be created while being locked out of WordPress and the console?

Note: This is not the account associated with the website in question.

  • Hi @awhigham9, if the site is hosted here on our servers, can you log out and log back into the account that is associated with the site? That way we’ll have enough information to get in our end and see what’s wrong.

If the site isn’t hosted here, we don’t have back-end access at all. You’ll want to work with your host, or try the suggestions listed here:
    https://wordpress.org/support/article/common-wordpress-errors/#the-white-screen-of-death

And then, going forward, you’ll also want to use the correct forums for self-managed installations, at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

Or, you’d be welcome to migrate your site to our services. You can find our pricing here:

    Cheers!
