white space and portfolio theme

  Using the Mina Olen theme.

  1 I need to get rid of some of the buttons on the front page, like the “press this” button.
  I have not activated those widgets so they should not be there.
  2 I also want to get rid of all the white space between the text and the buttons on the front page. How?

  3 There is a special portfolio function in this theme. I am already using this for my portfolio, it was no problem to create. But i ALSO want to use that same layout for my “services” page. Can I do that, and still keep my portfolio page like that?
