Who Are You? A Fifteen Second Rant

“it was a design decision made thoughtfully with readers in mind”

Haha, be honest. This is the frist time that WordPress made a decision based on input from its users. :D

Seriously, PLEASE stop ruining the site.

Honestly, we make updates all the time based on input from users.

Ok, here’s input: the new post editor is terrible, as other users have said. Now, WordPress.com likes the new editor. That’s fine. But user input would say,”Make it easier to switch to the old editor.” Why has WordPress.com not done this? Serious question. WHY has WordPress.com made switching to the old editor so difficult?

I just answered the “Would you reccomend WordPress.com?” survey and I gave WordPress.com a zero for the above reason.

the new post editor is terrible

This is really hard to work with because it doesn’t explain why.

Also, editor changes will be coming later this year. Much of the feedback posted earlier is being taking into consideration!

Come on! You have been told why a zillion times. It was embarrassingly bad. Some of the worst failures have been fixed. And I even like certain ways it behaves now. But you can’t say you don’t know why many dislike it.

@davidderrick, I was referring only to the previous comment. I know others have posted feedback, and it does get reviewed. In each case, it helps to have context and explanations about why—otherwise, it’s not very useful as it stands on it’s own. Which might be fine, I can always look at the other feedback too. In this case on this thread, the comment I was referring to was not helpful because it contained no context and no explanation. I can’t really do much to help in cases like that.

@designsimply I don’t envy your position in having to respond to everyone. You do a great job responding. Thank you!

@designsimply ~ Glad to see the change to word count rather than reading time. Even though I don’t think either is necessary, I can live with this.

You mention editor changes. Will we still have access through our admin panel to the Classic editor?

  • Unknown's avatar

@lauramacky, thanks. I care a great deal about doing good work.

You mention editor changes. Will we still have access through our admin panel to the Classic editor?

That’s the plan. The editor changes I am referring to are only for the editor in the WordPress.com dashboard not the WP Admin (or Classic) dashboard.

Note that small changes to the WP Admin editor may also happen, but those are usually in line with the WordPress.org open source project and they usually don’t change too much too fast.

@designsimply ~ thanks for that clarification.

And by the way, when I mentioned “intentions,” I was speaking more generally, and not about you, specifically. Clearly, you’re not in a position to make changes by fiat! I only was making the more general point that even when policy-makers have good intentions, their policies still can be bad.

    Thanks for all your help!

    @designsimply

I also thank you for putting up with these barrages. But sometimes, when they are very direct, your answers could be more too.

@davidderrick, I don’t always have perfect answers for everything. :)
