Who closes topics and why?

Oftentimes I go to a topic and actually have an answer that works for me — but can’t post it because the topic has been closed. I know it is not being closed by the author because I just solved one of my own problems/questions that had NOT been solved by any of the responses that I received here — and went to post my solution. But even though I had not “RESOLVED” the topic someone “CLOSED” it?

If this is the place to share results to help others, then seems like the only person allowed to close a topic should be the author since they are the only ones who can confirm that the issue was resolved.

Closing these topics that are not resolved also causes problems in that none of the suggestions work and yet when the topic comes up again folk are quick to point to those older closed threads even though the don’t solve the problems.

    My two cents.

Agreed. I think they automatically close all topics over a certain age, which is a real pain. Some of those are great resources, and very often an issue will continue to happen; it makes more sense to add to an existing thread than to start a new one.

I agree with sondan. Maybe they should remove the ‘topic resolved’ and give the ability to post as much times on the same thread as possible. If someone starts a new thread with the same question, a moderator or administrator can ‘lock’ the thread that he just made and with that direct him to the older thread and if he still has questions to ask them there….

Otherwise you get questions getting asked over and over because sometimes you want t o ask a question in addition to the information given in the older closed threads!

    Implement implement! :D
