Who do I ask about changing something on a default theme?

I have a question about getting something changed on a default theme. I do not have the customization upgrade. However, I don’t think I need one.

I do not know who to ask this of, so I am posting it here.

I am using Toujours. I just discovered something that I think should be changed on the default theme. This is the reason I don’t think I need/want to go the customization upgrade route.

I recently posted a long, multi-page essay. When I looked at the location of the page tabs it was under the “rate,” the share buttons, and the like button. It just gets lost in all that stuff. Is there any way that this could be put right after the text of the post and above this other stuff? I don’t see why it is/was coded where it is at all. But, I am not a designer, so I am not judging. I just would like to point it out and see if that could be changed.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Victor,

    Thank you for your feedback!

It is very rare for changes to a theme’s layout, such as this one, to be made after its launch as changes would effect everyone who has already activated the theme. I do see and agree with your point of view, though, and will pass the report on to the theme’s author. I’ll let you know what I hear back.

The only way to change the positioning of the page tabs at the moment is with Custom CSS, which is a Custom Design option included in WordPress.com Premium or Business.

Another option is to disable the sharing buttons on that page. To do this: Click on the option to Edit at the bottom of the page and then navigate to the Sharing panel on the left. From there, uncheck the options next to Show Sharing Buttons and Show Like Button.

Let me know if that’s helpful or if you have further questions.

    Hello @siobhyb,

Thank you for explaining the process. I wanted to avoid turning off the sharing buttons on this post or upgrading at this time. However, disabling the buttons may be the best solution at this point. If you do hear something about this I would greatly appreciate that information!

I hope this could be fixed in an update to the theme. Thanks again. Have a great day!

Hope you have a lovely day, too. I’ll keep you updated.

    Hi @jeremiahsvow,

I’ve been doing some digging into why the sharing buttons appear above the pagination links (which I was able to reproduce across all themes I tested) and came across the following thread with an explanation from my colleague:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/your-opinion-placement-of-pagination-links?replies=9#post-1314175

I checked in with the team and the reasoning given in that thread is still valid. With the above considered, it won’t be possible to change the ordering of the sharing buttons.

I’m sorry that I couldn’t give you the answer you were after here but I hope that explanation helps.

    Hey @siobhyb,

Thank you so much for following up on this issue. I read the forum post that you linked too. I completely understand the reason.

I do have a question then. Can this be modified with the design upgrade? If so, what would I have to do? I understand CSS a little bit. But, I imagine that it may be something I will need a step-by-step guide for.

Again, thank you so much. You have been so helpful!!

    Hi Victor,

The positioning of the buttons can be changed with some custom CSS, which you’re able to add as part of the WordPress.com Premium or Business plans.

If you do decide to upgrade then we have a dedicated CSS support forum where staff and volunteers help with specific snippets:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization

    Hope that helps!
