Who is my domain name registrar?
-
I’m looking at building a website with WordPress and wanted to purchase a domain name in the process. It wasn’t clear who my registrar would be. Can you please let me know? Is there a reseller, like Tucows, that WordPress works with?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can either buy a domain name yourself and then assign that to your WordPress.com site, but it would be easier to do it through WordPress. If you sign up for a Personal or Business plan at WordPress.com, you will be guided through the process of getting a domain name.

Yes, I get that. My question is: when I register a domain name through either the personal or business plan with WordPress, who am I actually registering the domain name with? Who is my registrar? As far as I know, WordPress is not a registrar (I could be mistaken).

Hi there,
That depends on the domain. For new .com, .net, .blog and .live domains we are a registrar. For all other domains we sell we are currently a reseller, but the nature of our reseller agreement means that in practical terms we are the registrar, as the actual registrar will not provide you support for a domain bought from us – they will simply refer you back to us for anything related to your domain.

Thanks for the info – so for the “other domains” that you are a reseller of, who are you reselling for? Is it Tucows?

The registrar for those domains are Wild West Domains, but as I said, you won’t be able to deal with them directly. They’ll just refer you back to us for any issue related to a domain registered through us.
