Who keeps signing me up for adult blogs?

  • Unknown's avatar

For the last week, somebody has been using my email account to subscribe to adult wordpress blogs. I get 1 confirmation email every day around the same time. To make sure it’s not somebody at my office or somebody in my household, I only use 2 computers to access the internet with this account, and I changed my password a few days ago. Today I got another pornography-themed blog subscription confirmation email.

Is there a way to know who is signing me up? IP addresses or regions of the world? Can you force sign-out my account in other areas of the world? This is very frustrating and I’d like to be able to completely disable signing up if possible.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. What’s probably happening here is that someone who has your email address is entering it into the follow widget on these sites. Changing your password won’t help, as someone only needs your email to do this. They don’t need to be logged into your account.

The only way I can think of to stop this is to change your email address, which is way to disruptive, or to filter all WordPress.com emails into spam, which would cause you to miss legitimate notifications.

I’ll tag this for staff to follow up, in case they have any other ideas or can do anything about it.

    Hi there,

I checked your account, and I don’t see any pending or active subscriptions linked to your username or email address for WordPress.com blogs. If those WordPress blogs aren’t hosted at WordPress.com and don’t use our Jetpack subscriptions service, then any email subscriptions to those blogs are separate from WordPress.com and aren’t something we can control. (From what I can see in our records, that’s the case here.)

If you aren’t sure where those emails are coming from, you can forward one of those email confirmations to help@wordpress.com (please also include a link to this forum thread in your email so we can link it back to this conversation). We’ll take a look and confirm if those emails are coming from WordPress.com or from somewhere else.

If they aren’t coming from WordPress.com, you’ll need to contact the website hosting provider that hosts the website for more assistance. This website can help you determine who hosts a site: http://www.whoishostingthis.com/

Hi oraqia, it looks like there have been two subscription attempts from somebody else, and none from yourself.

Because it’s not a large number of requests, it’s possible that the person is just making a typo or some other innocent mistake. There haven’t been any new requests since you opened this thread, so I would recommend that you not worry about it, unless you start receiving more.

If you’d like to prevent all WordPress.com subscription emails to that address, you can open one of the e-mails and click on the “Want less email? Modify your Subscription Options” link, then click on Settings, check “Block all email updates from blogs you’re following on WordPress.com”, and click “Save Changes”.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions or feel like that doesn’t resolve the issue for you.

Hi guys, Just wanted to say that this is happening again. I don’t think it’s an innocent mistake at this point.

Can you check into it again? I’ll forward the emails I receive as well.

  • Hi, I can see this was resolved privately, so I’ll close this out. I just want to add that you won’t be subscribed to any site until you click a link to confirm the subscription. Cheers!
