Who knows a theme that …
-
… archives Categories as short excerpts or, preferably, one-liners, WITHOUT the need for featured images ?
And that’s not all …
I need it also to include:
> flexible header
> 2 columns (if more, I can get rid of the extra)
> 3 (or 4) footer widgetsThere: that’s not much, is it ?! :-)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

In most themes what’s displayed in dynamic Archives and Categories pages is the same as what’s displayed on the front page or main page for posts. But in some themes only the beginnings of posts are shown, and in a few themes you only get titles or thumbnails. There is no up to date list that I am aware of. That’s the JustPi page – I recognise the URL.
Read that. It’s now aged out of any usability … -
-
No … it would be a matter of someone’s simply being a full bottle on themes, I think … as I might well be, ere long. :-(

flexible headers > http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/flexible-header/
2 columns > http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/two-columns/
3 (or 4) footer widgets > that will be under the columns filter

M.R., I’ve got a list of themes that show excerpts on the archives type pages (archive, category and tag). These do not show excerpts on the main blog page though. Do you also want excerpts to show on the main blog pages?
I’ll have to do some cross-referencing to see which of them also support flexible headers. The list will be a bit rough and probably not all-inclusive.
-
OH !!!!
:-D
Thank-you, Rich !
No, I DON’T want excerpts on the front – just for the archives.
I honestly didn’t know that you could provide this kind of help as well ! – soon I shall be asking you where’s the best place to buy hard tofu !!!
[grin]
MH, RS … -
Hard tofu… either Central Market, Natural Grocers or Wheatsville Coop here in Austin are your best bet. Someplace else… I’d have to research. Although I don’t typically get into the theme forums too much, that will be changing and I’ll be here and in the CSS forums.
Here is a list of the ones I found that automatically create excerpts on the archive page types.
Nuntius
Suburbia
Grisaille
Responsive
Shaan
The Morning After
OriginThere could be more, but these are the ones that I know of for sure.

You take my breath away, Rich ! – I can see I shall have to work really hard at it to come up with sumpn beyond your ken.
:-D
What a lot of fun I am about to have – all thanks to you.

Nuntius: refusal to allow header of more height
Suburbia: front page excerpted too
Grisaille: front page excerpted too
Responsive: header only 300 X 100
Shaan: refusal to allow header of more height
The Morning After: refusal to allow header of more height
Origin: front page excerpted tooSo, me old china … I remember your helping me with making the header bigger in – ahh … Newsy ? Something, anyway. Thus the question is: Nuntius, Shaan and The Morning After – is there CSS to allow the header to be made deeper ?
Please, I mean !!! -
We can add a header image through the CSS, so we can for the most part make it any size we want, but of course there is the futzing needed to make them responsive and not get out of whack.
Do any of them strike your fancy?

GOOD ADJECTIVE !!! [grin]
I rather like Shaan: it’d keep me off the streets for a good long while, changing all those colours …
I take yer point about the responsiveness, Rich, and I would regret that extra [adjective] effort …

I never thought of you living in Texas ! – you don’t seem the Texas type.
Just goes to show.
What, I can’t imagine !
[grin] -
I see it’s nearly 4pm chez vous: nearly 8 am here.
I have to go see my GP at 8:30; and as he always spends a long time with his patients, I shan’t be back within your working day, Rich.
:-(
At least I now know you’re 16 hours behind: I’m happy to have that bit of info. to help in terms of when to harangue and when to notify of future haranguing.
