Who’s responsible for Blog contents ?
-
Hi,
I would like to ask people here, Who’s actually responsible for the Contents of these Blogs ? Because I have found an Article (in http://wartafeminis.wordpress.com/2008/03/11/board-of-censorship-for-indonesia-why-not-to-reject-market-control-over-indonesian-value-indonesia-masih-butuh-badan-sensor-menolak-liberalisasi-nilai-oleh-pasar/) which clearly degrades social values of other cultures namely American. These kinds of articles are clearly meant to promote inter-cultural conflicts and serves as a dangerous inflammatory propaganda.
Although I’m NOT an American but I sure think that these kinds of Propaganda’s should be checked and controlled to prevent misrepresentation or misinformation by some IRRESPONSIBLE PARTIES which can lead to SERIOUS inter-cultural & inter-social conflicts in the future no mater what cultures is involved.
Regards,

The authors are themselves responsible.
It has something to do with that thing..whatsitcalled.. ah. Freedom of speech.
Censorship is a shaky road. -
Well, I fully agree with “Freedom Of Speach” rights, but with that rights there’s also what they called “Responsible Freedom Of Speach”. I dont think that anyone has the right to Degrade Social Cultures of others specially giving misinformation or misrepresenting any cultures. I might be wrong, but if its OK to posts inflamatory articles about Race, Religion, Cultures, Etc. you might just let the TERRORISTS use this blogs to propagate.

Unfortunately terrorists do use blogs and other forms of media as do propagandists. Each country has its own legislation regarding freedom of speech, limits to freedom of speech (and other limits as well), what constitutes hate speech and what is and isn’t permissible.
Some countries are signatories to various international conventions and treaties, such as the one that covers copyright but countries also have the right to opt out of these things. A change in government can invalidate all previous treaties and a country itself can choose not to honor them.
We cannot remake the world into the image we would all like it to be. There will always be dissenters to any viewpoint.
When people post inflammatory comment we can choose to: ignore it, answer it with reasonably argued points, take legal action depending upon the jurisdiction, sustain the situation by further inflammatory comment or escalate the situation by various means including violence.
Personally I tend to stay with the first 3 options.
Many countries however do not have freedom of speech rights but oddly do have freedom of propaganda rights as long as the people are voicing things that the governments in those places agree with overtly or tacitly.
There is no international court that is recognized by all nations in which to pursue any complaint and one has to take their chances in the jurisdiction in which the statements are made.

In this instance with it being a WordPress hosted blog if the company finds it violates specific Terms of Service the blog could be warned or be removed. Perhaps you should contact the company with your concerns.

It’s so ironic… From the little that an automatic translator will let me understand, the post in question criticizes film censorship in Indonesia and its use for political reasons – from a left-side or Marxist perspective, which apparently is intolerable to “medefacto’.
-
In such cases, both are responsible. But that still goes case by case.
Assuming that WordPress has itself registered in China, and some Falun Gung people hosted anti-communist blogs, the authority will not only come after Falun Gung people but likely to come after WordPress China as well. The same goes in Singapore as well.
But the legal complications are actually not as shallow as this. But we have to understand that many a case, most authorities only cares for themselves. Now in Michael’s movie, you saw senators and such don’t even read their own stacks of directives, policies and laws… How do you expect them to read beyond their territory?
The blog contents are liable under the basis that these contents are published as any licensed materials/newspapers, which is ironically not so. But the conventional wisdom is applied here, and if it is so… assuming you publish hate news against the crown with Diana’s private phone calls tapped, do you think that only the journalist will be in trouble, and the news agency will go scott free?
Dear Bazaarofdreams,
The actual issue about blogging is that it concerns the history of computer and cable development. If anyone wants to bring in the laws, not only is it bad for karma, but unless laws can stretch to open seas, how can anyone justify legal responsibility in cyberspace because of personal blogging?
It is not very hard to understand, but many people tend to choose to ignore. Hence a chaos now all over the world as various courts become chaotic over online cases.

Hi panaghiotisadam!
Those translators merely tells you the importance to appreciate cross-cultural differences, and that not one legal civilisation may be fair to enforce its own on the other.
I have explained this concept many times. That article may be praising you, but the translated contents may sound like scolding you… LOL~ And what would be your judgement?
LOL~

Medefacto, do you speak Indonesian language, or do you rely on automatic translator like panaghiotisadam? As an Indonesian, I can assure you that that post doesn’t have any inflammatory or propaganda tone. It’s actually quite a tame and reasoned opinion piece, eventhough the writer do criticize some Western values (and no, that doesn’t make him/her a terrorist).
If you think the blogger is misinformed or misunderstood, why don’t you just comment on that post or make a post on your own blog? I think doing that instead of demanding censorship will promote this ‘freedom of speech’ you highly praised.

Catshade, I do understand the Bahasa language and I did try to post a reply on that persons blog regarding this matter but my reply was deleted by that person and I received an email reply (after I emailed him/her) from that person saying ” Paman Sam, Amerika Serikat itu kapitalis liberal pragmatis Man!”… Bla.. Bla.. Bla.. and then that person said “Saya belum pernah ke Amerika, dan I don’t have to go to USA, untuk tahu dan memahami ideologi dan cara kerja USA, rating etc.” Bla.. Bla.. Bla..
Which if translated to English means –
” Uncle Sam, United States is an Capitalist Pragmatist”, and then goes to say “I’ve NEVER been to USA and I don’t have to go to USA to know their ideology and workings of USA and the Rating system”.
Which indicates to me that the person has NO IDEA what-so-ever about the system (Mainly MPAA) he/she is trying to criticize. What’s bothering is that not only he/she is oblivious to the facts of what he/she is saying but he/she is trying to implicate the idea that in this case USA and its people are FORCING their ways onto others by their movies and thats how their people and cultures are, which I find really ABSURD .
So to me I find that he/she is full of HATRED towards a particular culture or group of people or race and that is what he/she is trying to pass on to others.
Please note that not all dangerous and inflammatory propaganda’s are written in harsh words, some of them are really neat and clean but you need to focus on the deep intentions of the writer. I found this out cause I was lucky enough that the writer of that article actually replied to my email.

Well, we all have diffrent opinions. You cannot change that. If you don’t realise that, you will be no better, albeit diffrent from your pet-hate.

@medefacto
Welcome to the Internet. Posting something on the Internet doesn’t men that 6 billion people are going to read it and believe it. My Bahasa Indonesia is a bit rusty, but I have to side with catshade here; there’s absolutely nothing in that post that is in any way inflammatory or defamatory. And how many Americans have actually been to Iraq or Afghanistan, while at the same time holding some very opinionated views about said countries? So this thing goes both ways. -
Actually, the moral of the story is, you just can’t make everyone happy. Period, isn’t it?
Cyberspace allows the meet of all cultures, one’s gem is another eye-sore. Some people likes others leaving links behind to visit and make more friends; others who are petty saw that as trying to promote their own sites.
Since the floor can’t make each other happy, the judge should not try to make any other happy. Since we are all blogging, just make ourselves happier. Isn’t this why we are online?
Scope.
