After you ignore every renewal notice and allow your domain to expire you no longer own it. Are clear about that? It’s the domain name registrar that owns your domain when you allow it to expire, and that registar can set a redemption fee of their own choosing. WordPress.COM staff cannot waive the redemption fee because they do not set the fee. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/

This thread is tagged for a Staff followup.

  • Hi Florent,

We’re unable to remove the late fee. There’s a two-week grace period following a domain name’s expiration where no additional fee is added. The $80 is applied by our domain provider and we pass it on without additional markup.

As timethief noted, the support page provides a good overview of the overall expiration timeline.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Sorry @TT – not all renewal notices are being sent out – I speak from personal experience on this – I filed a report and things are being looked at and some changes have been made – but again – not everyone is receiving notices – that said – people should keep track of when things expire – also the big red notice is not being shown in all Dashboards

  • I’m having systems pull the e-mail logs. Thanks.

  • Howdy all,

The e-mail logs indicate notices were sent out on schedule. If you have any questions or need anything else, please let me know.

    Cheers!
