Why all of a sudden am I getting an insane amount of spam in the spam queue?

I currently have 1,179 comments in the spam queue, and get quite a few on a daily basis. These are usually filtered out through Akismet. I don’t have time to read through that many comments to make sure a legitimate comment didn’t get marked as spam by mistake. Why is this happening all of a sudden?

Sorry about the trouble, and thanks for reporting the issue.
I’m not entirely sure why you’ve recently received a higher influx of spam comments. They all seem to be coming from a Facebook referrer, which is a bit odd. It could be a case where a post of yours began popping up higher in search engine results and caught the eye of a spammer group. With regards to making sure it doesn’t inadvertently catch legitimate comments, Akismet is exceptionally good at filtering out what’s real from what is spam. So, you should have a problem. I did a quick scan of a few pages of your spam folder, and all of the spam comments seemed like legitimate spam.

As of today I was still getting lots of spam. Quite a bit of it was even going on the individual blog posts. I don’t know if it was a coincidence or if you pushed a magic button but as of tonight the spam comments have dwindled down to almost nothing! Thank you so much for your help!

No magic button unfortunately (would be awesome though)! Occasionally, spam can flair up for one reason or another. I’m glad it’s under control now. Please let me know if you need anything else!
