Why am I, a logged in WordPress user, seeing ads on my blog?

I think these ads, as now popping up with other WordPress users, are also disrupting our blogs. I can’t load pictures for a new post, but these ads show up in the preview before posting the post. I think WordPress needs to look at this issue ASAP before you alienate a lot of participants with WordPress. I mean, make us pay $30 for NOT running YOUR ads, what is the point of using a FREE web site for blogs.

Oh stuff and nonsense!
To off-set the costs of providing free hosting to millions of bloggers, WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read the advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.
10. Advertisements. Automattic reserves the right to display advertisements on your blog unless you have purchased an Ad-free Upgrade or a VIP Services account. http://en.wordpress.com/tos/
If the ads you see are found at the end of blog posts then provided you see this small About These Ads link what you are seeing is WordPress.com generated advertising.
All of WordPress.com ads are family-friendly. If you feel an ad is inappropriate please take a screenshot of it, upload it via Media -> Add New to your Media Library. Then return to this thread to post the file name to let Staff them know it’s there for them to view.
Lastly, note to eliminate all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs we can purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.
Do yourself a favor. Download an AdBlocker for your browser or purchase the No-Ads upgrade.

If that doesn’t suit then move on over to WordPress.ORG self hosting for a reality check. Then you will know how much it actually costs for web hosting and associated costs and you will comprehend the value of the features and support you get here.
For self-hosting figure an average monthly total cost (including cost of a domain name) of about $10 to $25 generally, but that all depends on storage and bandwidth requirements.
You will be responsible for all upgrades, installations, backups and troubleshooting. If you install a theme or a plugin that negatively affects your blog, then you have to figure out what went wrong and fix it.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate.

replies like the above do not motivate for continued use of WordPress. If you are going to offer a FREE service, you don’t change the rules without notifying users first in personal contacts. But, there are other sites to use if they are up front with their agenda, and, after 10 plus months of this use, why is it happening NOW?
Oh, just in time to ask customers using the free site to pay for an ad block. How typical of the current environment DC is our prominent example with PPACA!

Considering all I get for FREE from WordPress, an innocuous ad for the mother ship is the least I can bear. I’ve known all along, six years+, that my readers may see periodic ads, so I’m not overwrought now that I can see them too.

It seems we are on the same page. I’m grateful for what I have here. I’ve been out there in the cold and empty self hosting world. I have waited eons for answers that never manifested out there. Here support threads are answered quickly and politely. There are even those who provide hand holding step by step assistance rather than the RTFM “read the flipping manual” retorts that are common elsewhere. I prefer to be here where I’m coddled and cared for. :) -

I agree with you as to the what we are getting is a good deal,etc., and that it is spelled out in tos…
But you are missing one point. This is not the little red box that says, ads may appear here…This is a bigger ad for wordpress. The tos says that logged in viewers will not see ads, and yet we are. I’m not in anyway complaining about wordpress putting ads on free sites. But I have adblocker running and I am logged into wordpress, and there are ads on my blog.

nullJust a simple question – no complaints – why? Is this a new change? or just a glitch? Because this might force me to buy the no ads. So it is a legitimate question for us to make a decision based on facts. Can you please just answer it without drama?

NO that is not what the ToS states. This is what the ToS states:
Advertisements. Automattic reserves the right to display advertisements on your blog unless you have purchased an Ad-free Upgrade or a VIP Services account.
This is what the advertising (support doc) states:
Note: To support the service (and keep free features free), we sometimes run advertisements from partners like Sharethrough and SkimLinks. We try hard to only run them in limited places. If you would like to completely eliminate ads from appearing on your blog, we offer the No-Ads Upgrade.

well, there has been a little red box on posts for ages, saying that sometimes ads will appear, and click here to read more. It takes you to that page, which I’ve read a few times. The rest of the sentence is: “which means only a very small percentage of your page views will actually contain ads.”
That’s completely reasonable, and something I’m happy to live with. But if it has changed, and WP logged in readers will get those frequently, then that changes things, and makes the ad upgrade more necessary. Although it would seem like a wee bit of “false” advertising from WP :-).
I can’t speculate on the reason why you can’t see it. But I have seen it on many, but not all of my posts, today and yesterday.

Oh…and now they appeared on my other blog…2sojourners.com. I hadn’t noticed them there before.
The thing that makes this tricky is, I have upgrades already, custom domains on two sites, & customizing on one site. So if I now have to ad no ads upgrade, in the middle of the year, I can’t get the bundle discount, or I just have to take that and lose what I already spent…? But if it has changed, then that is a hassle for me. If they had spelled that out when I originally bought my upgrades, then I might have bought the bundle. But I took what they said at face value. That is why it is important to me to find out the correct info now. I’m a student on limited income, living abroad, where spending dollars is expensive for me. I can’t afford to waste money when I don’t have to.

Logged out (private window), I saw an ad.
So, again, the advertising policy for WordPress.com seems to me to be as advertised. ;-)
As timethief already pointed out– the policy about showing ads on WordPress.com sites is in the Terms of Service that everyone agreed to before clicking the “Sign me up!” button.
Also, FWIW, having your own domain, you’d be eligible to apply for the WordAds ad revenue sharing program.
As far as purchasing the premium bundle while you already have some of the upgrades, I believe you can get a pro-rated bundle, but Staff will have to confirm this.

I’m logged in and yet I see it. It’s as simple as that. It sounds like the other people above, had the same experience. So again, is this a change? or a glitch?

Here’s a screenshot of the huge ads being shown on all my new blog posts while I am logged into WordPress.com.
The ads are directed to me, not my readers. I do not know if anyone else can see these ads.
