Why am I being forced to add a blog to my account?

  • Unknown's avatar

I accidently entered my username wrong. Now, every time I go to wordpress.com, it prompts me to add a new blog to my account. I can’t find any cancel button and can’t access wordpress.com to see my Reader, unless I take a circuitous back route (Dashboard>View All Stats>Reader). How do I indicate that I do not want to create a 2nd blog?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Apparently I somehow accidentally changed my username. I changed it back, but I am still having the same problem.

I just had the same thing happen to me, only I don’t think I triggered it by making an error when logging in. Humm….will follow this thread. Like you, what is going on?

I found I could get to my blog’s dashboard from the dropdown menu under my username top right. But I also wonder what is going on. I have quite enough blogs, thanks!

I used a bookmark I’ve had for years and instead of taking me to the normal login, it took me to a welcome back elisa’s spot page that both tried to force me to create a new blog and one that marketed the forms of paid and unpaid blogging. There is no dropdown there nor way to get to my normal stuff. I CAN see now that I clicked forum that I have an image icon with my name at the top right screen, this has dropdowns so I should be able to navigate. I am using the most updated Firefox version and Windows 7. Maybe a wee oopsie in a roll-out? :)

Having the same problem. wordpress.com previously directed to blogs I follow but is now encouraging — demanding, even — that I add a new blog. Extremely irritating.

I seem to be having the same problem. It just started now.

Same problem. When I tried to go to my reader from the dashboard, I was redirected to the signup page, and it was the same when I entered the address by hand. I was finally able to get to the reader by going to Freshly Pressed first, then clicking on Reader. Annoying and convoluted.

oh nooooooooooo, when I click on the w inside of the circle at top left, so that I get the dropdown menu for reader ect. it doesn’t take me there, it takes me back to the force me to do a new blog advert page too. I am going off to see if any of the links in this area work and will come back to let ‘you’ know.

ok it looks like all of the links attached to the upper left W icon work properly except for the reader.

I CAN view the reader if I click on a top link from any of the pages to which I navigate from the circle W icon.

Tried the same experiment as elissaspot, same result. Reader sends me to the new blog nag screen.

I think there is updating going on. I logged out and did a computer restart, that dumps my cache due to my own computer settings and now there is a login button on the add a blog screen. Once I do login, it does still have the glitch though :)

I am giggling and thinking ‘progress not perfection’. Offers tea and coffee to the nice people who care about WP enough to come to forums and try to work things out :)

Are we all being hacked? When we put our passwords in were they stollen? I’m getting a bad feeling.

  • Unknown's avatar

doh now the backdoor is closed and the reader link from the blue page doesn’t work , i felt slick there for a minute :D

  • Unknown's avatar

And why hasn’t any wordpress staff addressed this? You think they would, since they want to make money off us of by advertising on our blogs, and getting us to either upgrade our blogs to paid ones or by second blogs that are paid.

  • Unknown's avatar

I do not think so–to the hacking, though I refrained from filling out that form, sometimes it just takes a while and we need to pass round the tea and coffee to stay busy until they can get to us.

same problem here, I even tried to add another stupid blog just to get back to the main stuff but I cant???

  • Unknown's avatar

Might be a couple of hours, especially if they wish to use human resources to fix a problem instead of chatting to us :)

Good sign? Tried the dropdown from the WP icon on toolbar top left again and it all worked — including Reader.

Just adding my voice – same problem no matter which way I try to look at Reader. I didn’t make aid take signing in or anything else, I just clicked on Reader and was redirected.
