Why am I getting a 500 Internal server error and how can I fix it ?
-
After mapping a custom domain, I keep getting a 500 Internal server error.
The website is sosciencespo.fr/sosciencespo.wordpress.com. My domain is hosted by french registrar OVH, the DNS are correctly set on ns1/ns2/ns3.wordpress.com and I could correctly map the domain in my admin area. The admin area is still available under sosciencespo.wordpress.com/wp-admin, but everything else leads to a 500 error. It may be worth noting that I had a wordpress.org blog under sosciencespo.fr before, and that I had installed Jetpack on it and thus mapped sosciencespo.fr to my wordpress.com account. Dunno if this is relevant. Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi there,
The domain sosciencespo.fr is now working correctly on my side. Can you give it another try and make sure everything is working for you? Just a note, all of your admin screens will still use the default sosciencespo.wordpress.com URL. So, for example, your Edit Posts screen will be the following:
https://sosciencespo.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
Not:
https://sosciencespo.fr/wp-admin/edit.php
Does that make sense? Let me know if you’re still running into issues!

Hey Jeremey, and thanks for the answer.
Unfortunately here in Paris it’s still not working.
I tried with multiple browsers and friends confirm.
Is it because of the propagation of the DNS? I’d really like to understand the reasons behind this issue. And thanks for the tip!

Hi!
This is likely the result of a browser caching issue, where your browser is storing a version of the site instead of loading a new one. Can you try clearing your browser’s cache? Instructions can be found here:
Let me know if that solves the issue!

Hey Jeremey,
Thanks again for your help. I of course cleared the cache of my browser several times and tried with other browsers. The website didn’t even work with my phone when connected to my Wi-Fi… And now I have it from another Wi-Fi source. So I guess it’s something linked with my Internet connection. Anyways, as it’s working for everyone including myself from work, this is settled!
Thanks again :)
