Why am I getting a 'Disconnect Your Site' warning?
-
I started getting a ‘Disconnect Your Site’ warning and it advises me to disconnect my Jetpack site, but I don’t want to. I want to continue with my site. How do I fix this?
Thank you,

Hi there,
Does the warning look like on this page?
http://jetpack.me/support/disconnect-jetpack-sites/If so, that means as far as WordPress.com can tell that site is no longer connected. I also don’t see Jetpack site in your account, so it does appear that it has been disconnected.
You will need to follow the prompts to disconnect the site, then log into your WordPress.org dashboard and reconnect Jetpack. If you haven’t recently updated the Jetpack plugin, please make sure you update it to the latest version, as that can actually be the reason why it was disconnected in the first place.
Let me know if you need more help with this.

Thank you! Yes, I did get that warning and I did disconnect as it seemed the only thing I could do. I think where I got tripped up is that I tried logging back into WordPress.com and it wanted to me to buy the mapping for my domain which I already own and I wasn’t about to do that.
I’ll try to follow these steps and see if I can get reconnected and updated. Thank you again!

I do have one question. It appears all of my site’s content is gone. Is there a way to retrieve it and the settings?

Are you the same person as @meredith166?
I can see plenty of content on https://sociallywoven.wordpress.com/.
If you’re speaking of the self-hosted Jetpack site, there is no way for us to help you here. While Jetpack allows you to connect a self-hosted site to your WordPress.com account, it does not give us access to your self-hosted site, so there is no way for us to access your data or help you recover it should it get deleted.
For help with this you’re going to need to post in the WordPress.org support forums for assistance:

Yes I am the same person – I have no idea why that old site and account popped up. I just hit reply from the notification in my email. Gah. No wonder I’m confused. 😜
I was afraid of that. Is there a way to make sure it doesn’t happen again? I can’t keep rebuilding my site all the time. Thank you!

To prevent your content from being lost on a self-hosted site you will need to make regular backups. Some web hosts do this for you, or you can use a plugin.
Automattic (who also owns Jetpack and WordPress.com) makes the VaultPress plugin that not only keeps backups of your site, but also offers spam protection and gives some measure of protection against hackers, but it is a Premium service with no free option. You can also ask on the WordPress.org website for free alternatives.
You can learn more about VaultPress here:

Enjoy your day :D
