Why am I getting followers if my blog is deleted?
-
My blog has been deleted for months now, but I still get random followers. Why?

Hi @emmywrites,
It looks like users can still manually enter the blog URL in their Reader to follow your deleted blog. I was able to successfully follow your deleted blog by just entering the URL in the Reader field. I’m working on figuring out if this is something we could stop by invalidating the feed causing an error when someone tries to manually follow your blog. I’ll let you know as soon as I know more!

Also, I entered another blog I had : yourtruthisyourfear.wordpress.com and it let me follow it too! Get those suckers gone!
-
And it notifies me when I follow it, because I am the email attached, but it says a random person was following me, not me.

Hi @emmywrites,
Currently, it does look like it’s possible to follow a blog that has been deleted by manually entering the URL in the Reader. I don’t believe you’ll receive an email notification when you follow your own blog. Was the email you received potentially a notification that I had followed your blog? I did that as a test to make sure it was possible.
For right now, I think the best workaround is to change your notification settings under Settings -> Discussion and make sure “Email me whenever Someone follows my blog” is unchecked before deleting the blog. I went back and did this for your two deleted blogs.
@TimeThief, if you would like me to do this for you as well, just let me know the URL of the blog you’re still receiving notifications for.

The notifications aren’t the problem so I might just go in and reupload the export file or whatever its called and manually delete all my posts
-
The followers shouldn’t receive any new updates. If you would like, I can just set your deleted blogs to private. That should make your feed unavailable. Let me know!
-
Is this a common problem WordPress deals with? I just don’t understand what the issue is. When I delete something, I want it gone. For now I will continue think about what I want to do with my blogs.

Hi Jeremy. So, I put in an even older blog of mine in the reader to see if I could follow it, and I could! And like the other blogs of mine, immediately it said I got a new follower, and it was some random blog, that was computer generated, like “Colombian cuties” is now following me. I would like to speak to someone and have all my information removed. I don’t understand why the people who run and manage WordPress can’t remove my posts. Don’t the tech people know what’s going on? This is really frustrating and feels like a scam.
