why am I getting spam?

over the past few weeks I have been receiving spam from ”jersgamne”, ”michael kors outlet”, ”cheap christian louboutin shoes” and ”new oakley sunglasses”. Not sure why, but it’s coming fast and furious lately.

The most common reason for a sudden increase in spam could be that you accidentally approved one spam comment and that has opened the door for others. Another reason could simply be the fact that spam comes in waves and you appear to be caught in one – this type of spam is often generated by humans, not by spambots, and thus they’re able to fool the spam filters into thinking they are real comments.
The best thing to do is to simply keep marking these comments as spam (not just deleting them). This way Akismet will better learn what to filter and it should decrease over time. You may also want to temporarily disable email notifications for comments so you don’t get an email each time one of these comments slip through, and you should consider changing your moderation settings so all comments are held for moderation until the spam decreases. Both settings can be adjusted under Settings ->Discussion in the dashboard.
