Why am I getting traffic spikes?

    For the past few months or more, I’ve been seeing twice daily traffic spikes on my blog http://illustrationage.com. I can provide a screen shot if needed. I’m hoping someone can tell me why, because not only does it give an inaccurate impression of organic views, but it also makes me concerned that someone is attempting to hack my site. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Thomas,

    I just took a look at your stats and it seems fairly normal. I’m not seeing anything out of the ordinary. I do see a spike on Nov 10th, but considering that 4 posts were published that day, it makes sense.

    Can you tell me which days you are seeing this spikes? I can view your stats so the screenshot won’t be necessary.

    Actually I feel like a screenshot would help explain what I’m talking about because the spikes aren’t happening on certain days. Rather, they’re happening at certain times EVERY DAY. In other words, my day cruises along as normal with a few hundred views per hour and then BAM! Over 1,000 or so views within a given hour. So the screenshot I’m referring to is from the stats shown in the top black bar rather than on the stats page itself, which doesn’t show hourly stats. Like I said this happens at a regular interval every day whether I’ve posted or not which is what makes me suspicious.

    Hi Thomas,

    To be honest I can’t say why there is a spike in stats at a certain time of the day. All I can say is that is what are stats are reporting and nothing looks fishy on our end.

    Normally if there is an issue with stats, more than the time, the stats will go from 0-4 views a day to the 10,000 views in one day and the back to 0-4 views. Usually that is when we will wonder if it’s some kind of bot. However, this is not the case for you.

    So, I wouldn’t worry and visitors would be harmless to your site unless somehow they got access to your account password. Even then your stats wouldn’t spike.

    I recommend changing your password every couple months just to be safe.
