Why am I getting unsolicited subscriptions to spam/advertising wordpress blogs?

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but for the past week I have received multiple emails from ‘(email visible only to moderators and staff)’, telling me to confirm my subscription to pages like ‘Win an iphone 7’ or ‘Home Based System’ or ‘Claim your cash back’. I have never signed up to these pages and have not posted my email address on any pages publicly. I can go to ‘manage my subscriptions’ and delete all the pending ones, but I just get new ones soon after. Got 2 just today.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi –

It sounds like someone is signing you up to follow these sites via your email address.

My suggestion is to double down on your security measures, change your passwords to your WordPress.com account and your email accounts. Also, enable two factor authorization on both accounts.

If they gain access to your email account they can reset your WordPress.com password, locking you out of your account.

  • I forgot to ask –

Can you share any future subscriptions here as well? Include the URL for the site.

    Hi!
Thanks the suggestions! I will do that, and if I get any more, I will post them here. They are all advertising WordPress accounts and they don’t even seem like real products, like “win an iPhone 7!” or other scam like WordPress artircles that I have been subscribed to, if that means anything.

  • Good morning –

I’ll be watching for an update about the sites so that we can take a closer look at this.
