Why am I having trouble sending my blog post to Facebook today.

  • Unknown's avatar

I keep trying to publish to Facebook but the checkbox keeps going back to blank after I select it and hit Update.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It looks like we’re seeing some errors regarding the Publicize requests to Facebook for your recent blog posts. Can you try following all of the steps here to disconnect/reconnect?

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#reconnecting-services

Please note, these steps are more involved than removing and just re-adding the service.

I did all that, twice over, in fact, but when I try to edit my post to send it to facebook, the same thing happens: I click the box, I update, I go back and click the edit button and the check mark is gone again. And the post doesn’t go. It is a moot point at this point, because whatever I post to Twitter reposts to my blog, but there is still something not working properly here.

P.s. Yes, the problem has occurred before, but those times all it took was to edit, check and update and it would go. Except for today.

  • Unknown's avatar

I am having the same problem. Again.

Thanks for clarifying @quillfyre and for the additional report @amybesscohen.

@quillfyre – Could you try setting a Blavatar/favicon for your site?

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/blavatars/

For some reason, Facebook doesn’t like the image URL associated with your post.

@amybesscohen – Did you recent post titled “John Nusbaum 1814-1889: The Family Patriarch” fail to Publicize? While it looks like you’re experiencing the same error, it appears intermittent. The last example was on Jan 8th for your site while that post was published on Jan 10. If it did fail to Publicize, can you confirm that the Facebook option was checked?

Jeeremeylduvall, which image is the problem? My header, my photo which I’ve used for well over a year, or the getty image unique to this particular blog post? I am not sure what it is I need to change.

  • Unknown's avatar

sorry, not a getty, it’s a wikipedia one.

  • Unknown's avatar

ok I have apparently corrected this problem post by removing my pic that I had uploaded from my own computer. Not sure why there is an issue with it, but I replaced it and it seems fixed now.

  • Unknown's avatar

ok looks like I spoke too soon. I set up a new post today. I thought it was appearing twice on my “home” page, and I checked to see if the checkbox remained checked twice before publishing and it was, but now that I published it, it is blank again. Strangely the photo that replaced yesterday’s and went ok on the update this morning is the same one I chose for the new post, but now seems that it too is a problem. These are located on my media library in wordpress. This is really a frustration now.

  • Unknown's avatar

p.s. for some reason when I am in edit mode, these photos have a Pin It button in the top corner. I do not pin my photos and I have not linked my blog to Pinterest.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, it did as did the one I published on January 8, which I had to manually post to Facebook as I did with today’s post.

I’ve now followed the instructions above, but will not post again until Monday, so I won’t know if it worked until then.

Thanks for following up. I’ve had this happen before. It worked again for a few months and then this week started not working again.

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh, and I HAD checked off the Facebook option both times.

  • Unknown's avatar

pps even stranger is that when the post from Jan 9 came over 22 minutes ago it shows up with the photo that I removed and replaced in the post. It is still showing up with the photo that was causing the problem. How does that work.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi @quillfyre – Let’s try to handle one issue at a time. Regarding the image, I was referring to your blog avatar called a Blavatar or Favicon. The instructions here will help you to set one for your site:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/blavatars/

Can you try doing that? Once we get the issue with Publicize fixed, I’m happy to take a look at the other issues!

@amybesscohen – Thanks for confirming. I’m not seeing the same issues with your post URLs when I run them through the Facebook debugger here:

    https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object

So, I’m not sure what’s causing the issue. Please keep me posted about Monday’s post.

  • Unknown's avatar

ok jeremeylduvall, I have done that I think. Still don’t see the post though

  • Unknown's avatar

My post today went ok. I also had changed it to go to my Page rather than my Timeline for personal use. That way I won’t duplicate what comes over via the Twitter connection.

  • Unknown's avatar

I just posted another post and it did not publish to Facebook. I followed all the instructions above, but it did not work. Please HELP!

  • Unknown's avatar

And the box had been checked, but when I went back to look now, it was unchecked. I checked it, updated, but it still did not publish to Facebook.

Great! It sounds like this has begun working on your side now. Is that correct?

I’m still looking into this! Just a note, going back to an already published post, checking the box, then, updating the post will not trigger another Publicize action. I’ll keep you posted with what I find out!
