Why am I logged ito Dashboard but not the homepage?

After successfully logging on and carrying out various admin stuff in Dashboard, the homepage remains in ‘visitor’ mode i.e. no admin bar at the top, a ‘Follow’ button bottom right and an attempt to reply to a post brings up the submission form for non-members (email/Name etc)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

This usually happens if you don’t have third party cookies enabled in your browser. You can check to see if your browser has third party cookies enabled by visiting this page: Preview Problems and Third Party Cookies

That page also has more information about how to enable third party cookies, if you need. Please let me know if you have any questions about that, or if you continue to have trouble staying logged in when you visit your site. :)

No – just have third-party cookies blocked. Switched over from Firefox 25.0.1 to IE11 and all’s well. Perhaps the recent Firefox update tweaked something. Chrome’s okay too. I’ll play abound with it when I have time. Thanks Rachel-with-the-lovely-job-title.

You’re welcome! If you un-block third-party cookies in Firefox, that should do the trick for you. :) Please let me know if you have any further trouble with this.

I would Rachel but was once advised not to – I can’t remember why, isn’t there some security implication about third-party cookies?

There are some valid concerns about third party cookies and privacy. You can read more about it on Wikipedia.

If you’re concerned, you can enable third party cookies specifically for your own domain and WordPress.com (and not for other sites you visit). We have links to instructions for doing that in different browsers here: Preview Problems and Third Party Cookies

As mentioned on that page, third party cookies are used here at WordPress.com to keep you logged in to your account when you visit a WordPress.com site with a custom domain (like yours). If you choose not to enable third party cookies at all, it will cause the problems you described where you won’t stay logged in when you visit your site.

Finally understood. I thank you for going the extra mile to coherently explain all to this Irishman. My best wishes to you, Mike

You’re very welcome, Mike! Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with it. :) And as always, if you have any other questions about your site, you’re welcome to contact us again. Cheers!
