Why am I not able to get pingbacks working on my posts?

When I started my blog https://amaviedecoeurentier.wordpress.com/ in Novemer, pingbacks to the daily post and weekly photo challenge worked fine. They then stopped working and I get a link from my post to the daily and weekly post but nothing appears on the lists. I have tried checking my settings and they appear to be correct. I like to post daily and would love to be able to engage with the daily and weekly prompts. Can individual blogs be checked for functionality?

I had the same problem. Tried to participate in the prompts but my posts never appeared with the other participants – pingbacks were enabled in my settings as well. I believe WP has been looking into this or at one point they communicated they were aware of an issue with the pingbacks not working, so it is not just you.
I haven’t heard anything new about this issue recently, but I do know that they are working sometimes for me so it doesn’t appear to be consistent. That means I am not sure if doing a random test from your blog would confirm there isn’t still an issue, since mine appeared to be working fine with other bloggers but when I included a pingback in my responses to daily post prompts – they did not work. I hope someone better informed can help you, but just wanted to let you know – I know they are aware of an issue and are working hard to fix it.
For now you might want to try going into your settings and turning pings and trackbacks off – then save, then click the box to turn them back on, then save again. You can also turn this off for individual posts, so if you have a post open in editor and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page, there are two check boxes and one says “allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page?” that box needs to be checked for pingbacks to work from the post where the link to the prompt is included. I would check to see that box is checked as well. If you want to do a test run with me, I am happy to help.
You just have to create a new post, call it “Test” and add a link to a post from my site in your post, then publish it – any post from my site is fine since we’re just testing it out to see if I receive a notice to approve a pingback from you, which is essentially what would happen if you published a post and put the link to the prompt from the daily post in the post you’ve published.

Can you please give me a link to a specific post where the pingback isn’t working? There was an issue with pingbacks to the Daily Post, but our team launched a fix for that so pingbacks to the Daily Post should now work on your more recent posts. I’d be happy to take a closer look at a specific post where it didn’t work for you.

Thanks so much for taking the time to get back to me about this. I seem to have problems with both the Daily Post and the Weekly Photo Challenge.

I just tried the post function for the topic “play lexicographer” (5 minutes ago) and it has worked! Hopefully that means that is fixed now. https://amaviedecoeurentier.wordpress.com/2015/01/30/paristalsis/

Hi! I’m so glad your latest pingback to the Daily Post worked. :) It looks like the other post you mentioned (from the photo challenge) was caught up with a bug that our team just fixed recently, so from now on they should work for you. If you have trouble with pingbacks on any new posts from now on, please let me know!
