Why am I still having problems when commenting on .com sites
-
comment cannot be posted is still happening on all .com blog sites I actually asked this previously but answer could not be found but there are more and more bloggers that have .com sites and not wordpress.com . Here is he link to the thread
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/sorry-this-comment-could-not-be-posted-error-1/page/2?replies=48#post-1864676I thought I could just ‘live’ with the problem but now so many bloggers have the .com sites it is such an effort to try and leave a comment. I go to their site, and if I see it’s .com I go to another one of their posts.. sometimes I have to do it several times and then the WordPress bar at the top appears and I can leave a comment. I was wondering if WordPress could again look into this problem and find a solution. It’s not just me because I’ve seen other threads that refer to this issue… Thanks Diane
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Diane,
I read your past forum thread and see that the issue might be taking place with your browser. The first thing I need you to try is to attempt to comment on a .com blog while you’re using another browser. You can try Firefox and/or Google Chrome.
Please try to comment while you’re logged into your WordPress.com account through Firefox or Chrome.
If this doesn’t work, log out, and attempt to comment while you are not logged in to your WordPress.com account, also on Firefox and Chrome.
Please get back to me and let me know how that works. Thanks much.

Hi. 1. I still could not comment using Firefox.
2. The only way I could comment not logged in to WordPress was by entering my email address and password that is of course connected to my blog at wordpress. It allowed me to do it.But I don’t want to have to log out every time I want to make a comment. And then I have to put in my email and password every time I do make a comment.
Does it help WP to fix the issue by having this information? Thanks for try to clear up this frustrating issue….Diane

Hello there.
Thank you for trying those suggestions. Let’s move on with the troubleshooting.
First, let me know one or two of the sites that will not allow you to comment. I’ll need links to the Posts on which you are attempting to leave a comment.
Next, please log into your account. Go to this link:
http://thatrobyn.com/2014/06/25/i-am-prehistoric/Try to leave a comment on the post. I need you to take screenshots of what you are seeing:
a) The comment box
b.) Your comment
c.) The result of clicking the button to submit your commentYou can simply upload the screenshots to your Media Library, like any other images, and I’ll be able to access them from there. Let me know when there’s something I can look at.
The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots:
Finally, we you ever able to leave comments? Or is this a more recent occurrence?
Thanks so much.

Hello Diane,
Well, there’s good news and bad news.
First the good — I was able to log into your account, and was able to comment on WordPress.com sites. So, we know the issue isn’t with your WordPress.com account. It’s in good standing.
However, the bad news is the issue is probably being caused by your browser(s) or computer. I believe it could be because of your firewall, or because of extensions/plugins/add-ons that you’re running on your browsers.
I suggest logging into WordPress.com on your own computer — please use Firefox. Then, disable any extensions/add-ons that you might be running on that browser. Clear your cache, and go back to the WordPress.com site — thatrobyn.com — and try to comment.
To disable Firefox extensions and plugins:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/disable-or-remove-add-ons?esab=a&s=diable+addons&r=2&as=sYou don’t have to uninstall them. Just disable them for now.
To clear your cache:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cacheLooking forward to hearing how this round of testing goes! All the best.

Hi..I thought we had something figured out but I was concerned over disabling some of the plug ins… but I did for the test. Now you’re going to be confused…lol
When I disabled the plug ins …I had no add ons enabled…and cleared cache… I went to my blog site and to a comment on one of the blogs I have problems with… and the FIRST time it was a success.. the WordPress bar at the top appeared an I was able to make a comment. I went to test a couple of other things re removing certain plug ins and then went to try on IE to add a comment.. (Couldn’t) THEN went back to Firefox and tried again to do a comment and this time I COULD NOT….
This is a real puzzler… why could I the first time on firefox but not the second time???I think that I need some of the plug ins I disabled though??? Flash Player, Picasa, and another couple…. but I’ll wait to hear from you… Diane

Tonight I did one step more… I read about firewalls… mine is bitdefender and I changed the Stealth mode from remote to off and tried to comment… NO DIFFERENCE
Then I put the Windows firewall active and NO DIFFERENCE
So I put it back to what it was…
I’m now at a total loss and hope is fading fast….. but thought I’d fill you in. … Diane -
Diane,
We’ve done a little research on your ISP (Internet Service Provider), and we’re curious if your connection is what is causing the issue.
In order to test this, you’ll need to use another ISP to comment. Perhaps another computer, outside the home, using a different ISP…or, if you have a smartphone, you can log into your account and attempt to comment. If you’re using your phone, you cannot do this over wifi. That will have to be turned off during your testing.
Thanks much. Don’t give up yet! We’ll do our best to help you iron this out.

I did the phone thing.. no wifi.. IPhone and made a comment and got the error message. Is it somehow connected to my blog address url ? Diane
-
Diane, It shouldn’t be connected to your blog URL or your user name. The only way to test that is if you want to create a dummy account, and even register a temporary site, if you’d like, and attempt a comment from this new account.
If you’re able to do that, and successfully comment, we can discount the idea that the issue is happening at the level of your computer/ISP/browser/phone, etc.
Let me know what you think!
-
You mean set up a brand new blog? It’s been a long time since I set mine up.. I’m not sure about what’s all involved but I guess I could try. What about using the same email?
note: when I was testing on the phone I tried to put a comment on post that was in my email already..and somehow I clicked on something to stop following it… The only reason I mention it is because when I went to her account to re-follow…. it wouldn’t let me because it said it was not a valid email address which of course it is (email visible only to moderators and staff) I was wondering why it did not recognize it as valid??? Diane

Diane,
My suggestion is to start by registering a new account. You don’t have to start a new blog yet. First, you’ll log out of WordPress.com, go to WordPress.com and register as a new user. You will have to use an alternative email address, as WordPress.com users require unique email addressed.
When you are asked if you want to start a new blog/site, you do not have to do this.
While logged in as the new user, try to comment on a WordPress.com site.
I suspect the email error popped up as you had just removed yourself as a follower. I will look further into the possibility that (email visible only to moderators and staff) is causing problems, though!
Let me know how things go as the new user!

I hope I did things right. I did get confused a bit (not surprising) but I did create something.. and was able to post on a site where I can’t right now (without a hassle)
http://russtowne.com/2014/07/14/slices-of-life-update/I did a screenshot that is in my media library
Let me know what you think… thanks Diane
-
I am now totally confused…. I experimented with 3 other .com sites and got ‘error’… when I signed in under the new email and user name wallydiane232 and email (email visible only to moderators and staff)
This has got to be one of the most complex issues you’ve had lately… Diane

Diane, Ok — so you were able to comment on a post while you were logged into your WordPress.com account! But, this was an exception, rather than the rule, it seems. Still, once again, we have additional confirmation that your account/site is not causing the issue.
Do you have access to a computer that is not in your home? Or a laptop that you can take outside the house and connect via a new wifi? If so, we’d like you to try the process again. I think since you were able to login/comment with your original email/user account, we should stick with that.
You are right. This is confounding! A new one for all of us. Thanks for all the elbow grease!

Okay…. we hit the jackpot… I went today to our friendly coffee shop with wifi and was able to comment on the .com sites…. I looked at several of them and the WP bar showed across the top and I made a comment no problem. Now comes the hard part….Our ISP is Explornet. Why would this be an problem and what can I do about it.
Secondly, There was no way I found to just set up a user name and email on WP without setting up a blog. So I did writertesttwo.wordpress.com Since that didn’t work I deleted it right after you told me that was not the issue.. However I noticed that if I’m somehow not logged in to my good blog… it shows up in the comment area. Why if it’s deleted does it do that? I guess I’ll just have to remember to be always logged in to my good account.
I do really appreciate all the time you’ve spent helping me sort this issue out. I can’t for the life of me figure out what to do about it, so I hope you have a suggestion short of changing ISP’s because in our area we’re limited who we can use.
Diane

Hi Diane!
Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do on our end to fix the ISP problem. Our staff has done some reading online about common issues that some users have with Xplornet, and you may want to contact their support staff to see if they have suggestions.
I do hope you’re able to either resolve this with Xplornet, switch ISPs, use the coffee shop, or comment when you’re not logged in. Please let me know how you proceed.
I guess I’ll just have to remember to be always logged in to my good account.
That’s correct — that area will always be pre-filled with whatever account you’re logged in with. Make sure you’re only logged in as writerwannabe763, clear your cache, and you shouldn’t have problems going forward.
Thanks Diane — your perseverance has paid off in that you finally know what’s causing your commenting problem. I do hope that Xplornet or another ISP alleviates the issue in the future. Wishing you the best!

It is good to know it’s not WP or my computer. A friend yesterday said that ISP’s have firewalls too and that it might be the issue…. and I read about router firewalls… This is really news and I almost don’t know where to begin…Anyway I do so appreciate all of your help and to finally know what I’m dealing with… I wonder if other explornet people do also…I did some reading on them but am going to do some more…Take care and many thanks… Diane
