Why am I still having problems when commenting on .com sites

  • Unknown's avatar

Diane, It was my pleasure to help.

I also read about other Xplornet users having similar issues, so you’re not alone. If you DO find a solution, I’d love to hear about it. It could help future Xplornet users who are experiencing the same commenting problems.

Thanks again for your patience. Good luck solving this! Best to you :)

Well, it’s a month later and many tests with my ISP techs. It is a weird problem. They had me test ping and other things..did screen shots and nothing… Then I tried something else. I made myself a ‘user’ on my husband’s desktop .. When I did his desktop did NOT have the problem. The WP toolbar appeared! So when I told the ISP techs .. they said it was not something they could/would deal with but that they thought it needed ‘hard coding’. I tried the ‘geek squad’ and the guy I got was not really understanding .. he kept saying that he knew what it was but didn’t listen to me saying that what he said was not the issue. So I really don’t know at this point who can help me regarding what the ISP people ‘think’ is the issue. Frankly I’m so tired of trying to explain to every different person the problem and all that has been tried and ruled out…. Someone I blog with said there was a site called ‘fiverr’ and wondered if they could help. Do you know anything about them? Anyway thanks for all you tried on my behalf. I wish I could have come back with an answer. Maybe leave this thread open in case somehow I get an answer to tell you…. Diane

Robyn, Follow-up. Instead of repeating myself I’ll give you a link to what I just posted about this issue…. Many thanks for your help….Diane

    Diane,

What did you ISP say the issue was exactly? I can ask around and see if anyone else has come across such a strange issue!

I love the solution that your nephew came up with. Are you now using your Reader to comment on sites you’re following? Then you should also be able to comment with any trouble.

When you’re logged into WordPress.com, you will see all the latest Posts of the sites you follow. Click Comment in the Reader, and give it a try!

Thanks Diane! You’re the most patience person ever :)

I’m not sure if the ISP were right with needing ‘hard coding’…. My nephew had me test various things and when I signed on as a guest on my own computer…. the problem didn’t exist… but when I signed in as myself.. the admin… the problem did exist… But he suggested I just sign in not using the W for wordpress. The only ‘bug’ in doing that I learned today is 1.I get a notice that I need to enter my WP password because I am not signed in to WordPress… and 2. that when I make a comment on a blog I do NOT get a notification of the blogger’s reply to my comment… So I might have to try the Reader to find the .com blogs but I’ve never used them. Either that or I have to go back to the sites that I make a comment on to see the reply of the blogger… OH MY OH MY…. My little gray cells are as gray as my hair now!….. Diane

Diane, you are so funny. And your nephew should apply for a job with us :)

Let me know how that Reader suggestion works for you!

As always — all the best to you!

Hi Robyn.. long time no see..ha! You won’t believe what this past month has been like… I have tried using the Reader and it’s a bit of a nuisance too.. because I have to leave the email I’m reading …go to the web and my dashboard and then the reader to read the post and then comment. So I have kept checking everything that I could … in special firewall settings.. and personal etc etc. Finally I got the bright idea to sign in my computer as a ‘guest’ and lo and behold it was okay.. toolbar displays. For the life of me I can’t figure out what the difference is.. it’s got to be some setting but unless I feel like contacting the ‘geek squad’ again to try and explain it all (so complex) I’ll just sign in as a guest when I do my blog stuff… I suppose a programmer could figure it out but I don’t happen to know one … Thought I’d let you know what’s happened ( as an aside most of August and September I’ve been dealing with the effects of having my two email accounts hacked. Because of this and Microsoft procedures etc they wouldn’t acknowledge me as owner of my Hotmail account until last week ) I had to open up a new blogging account and will delete the Hotmail in approx. 30 days just to get rid of it My NEW account is now (email visible only to moderators and staff) so if you write send to it… phew! Diane

You are a trooper! And I am so glad you changed your email address, after all the hacking. How awful.

I am hoping the new accounts will clear the path, and allow you to blog and read blogs without impediment. Would you let me know how it goes? I’ve wondered how you were doing!

Thanks for dropping a line. Always good to hear from you :)

Hi again… Good news and yet mysterious…. Today we got a new ISP and lo and behold the problem is not a problem anymore! It seems as though the techs at Xplornet were not correct after all. Otherwise why would it now be okay.. changing to Cogeco. I got so frustrated at the horrible ‘download’ speed the past two months.. I did a lot of digging and testing of speed, logging times etc. called Xplornet getting the same response as we’ve been getting ever since signing up with them. I looked online and found many other dissatisfied customers.. I think they were doing ‘management traffic’ wrongly on our service…and while I may never know, we’ve cancelled finally with them. We were getting 0.25 or 0.38 etc etc.. Occasionally between 1.0 and 2.0 ‘very occasionally. Today I am getting 6.25 with Cogeco. So it would seem that in future if you get any bloggers using Xplornet with issues such as mine…. you can tell them….. I’m kinda sad the mystery is solved…. because we had ‘fun’ trying to solve it.. did I say ‘fun’….lol But I’m sure there will be some further questions with WordPress at some point I may need help with… so until then…. Thanks for hanging in there with me during this ‘ordeal’….. Diane

    Diane!

Oh my goodness, I am so glad to hear that you have a new ISP that isn’t cramping your style!

I will let other users with the same issue know what you went through. I really appreciate how well you documented everything and stayed in touch.

It was lovely working with you through this saga! I’m so relieved for you that there is a happy ending. I definitely look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Wishing you (and that handy nephew of yours) all the very best. Happy Commenting! :)
