Why are ads showing up on my website, when I view it in a browser?

    Hello,
When I do a search, then click on my website, guilinfunding.com, certain words are active links. These links, are ads, and in some cases, go to competitors of mine.

How can that be stopped? I bought the Premium plan, which says there will be No Ads
    Many thanks for your help
    Anne

    Hey Anne!

I’m not actually seeing any ads/third-party links at http://guilinfunding.com/.

Could you tell me where you’re seeing this?

If possible, create a screenshot, so I can better understand the issue. You can simply upload the screenshot to your Media Library, like any other image, and I’ll be able to access it from there.

The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots:

    Take a Screenshot

Just let me know when there’s something I should look at.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

    Hi Thatrobyn,
Thank you for your help. I just uploaded a screen shot of 1 page with the ads showing. (every page has them) to my media Library.
The ads on the “Running Short of Cash” page are
    1. Accounts Receivables
    2. Equipment
    3. Financing
    4. Sizes
    5. Email
    6. Stock Photos
All the above words are in blue, underlined and are active links.
When I hover over them ads pop up (I have a pop up blocker on)
    Many thanks,
    Anne

    Hi Anne,

Those aren’t actually on your site, as far as I can tell. Here is the general view of your site:
    https://cloudup.com/cIDmIN5RS26

I suspect they might be stemming from adware you may have inadvertently allowed on your computer.

Let’s do a bit of testing, to be certain.

Since you’re using Firefox, I’m going to have you turn off your extensions and plugins temporarily.

Here are the instructions Firefox offers to turn these off:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/disable-or-remove-add-ons

I also found a similar issue experienced by another Firefox user several months ago that might help you out:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1037844

Once you disable your extensions, plugins and add-ons, you will clear your browser’s cache using the instructions below, then refresh your site in your browser again:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

So you are aware, when WordPress.com ads to appear on WordPress.com sites, that is not how they show up. They look entirely different. That’s why I suspect they may be connected to adware on your Firefox browser.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

    Hi Thatrobyn,

    Thank you so much.

Yes, I downloaded some ‘stuff.’ The ‘ads’ are now gone

You are so patient. I have a beginner.

I so appreciate your help so much

    Anne,

No problem at all! I’m very glad I could help.

That malicious adware is meant to fool you into thinking those ads are on the actual website, rather than just on your browser. It makes total sense to me why you’d think it was guilinfunding.com! I would have wondered the same thing :)

I’m glad you asked the question. It will certainly help other users.

    Wishing you all the best!
