Why are category menus not the same after changing templates?

  • Unknown's avatar

I changed from Twenty Twelve to Twenty Ten template. In both cases I use categories for menus But now when I click any menu option (category) I get archive data. Why don’t I get the original unabbreviated version?

    Thanks

    Hi there, Mike!

You’ve switched to a theme that automatically displays post summaries by default on archive pages. If you’re not fond of that, you should adjust to another theme that allows for more control over the way posts on category pages are displayed.

If you need a hand with that, please let me know, and I can help you find something new that suits your needs and aesthetics.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!

Thanks for trying. I was looking for something like twenty twelve but with a smaller header with text over a photo. I knew I was taking a chance by switching to an older template.

I would like to have WordPress.com restore my website back to Oct 21.

The Twenty Twelve template does not look like it used to.

    Thanks

    Hi Mike,

I’m afraid we do not keep snapshots of how sites appeared at any one time. You will need to go through and re-customize your site how you had it before you changed your theme, I’m afraid. Since we don’t have those records, there isn’t much which we can do FOR you, however if you have specific questions on how to make something look a specific way we’d be happy to help!

Okay. Let’s rebuild my main page.

I have tried removing and adding parts but it does not look like it did last month.

I would like one or more of the following:
    1. Name (Michael E. Kelley) and saying/quote on top of the image.
    2. The category menu used to be butted up against the BOTTOM of the image. Currently it is above.
    3. “Leave a reply” used to be at the bottom of the page. Now it is near the top.
    Thanks for your help.
    Mike

Some of those changes are not really built in to the theme which you have, which made me wonder if Twenty-Twelve was the theme you originally had before you changed things around.

I just did a quick look through the history of your account, and sure enough before you changed to Twenty-Ten you actually had Twenty-Eleven installed and set up, not Twenty-Twelve. This would explain a lot of the issues which you’ve been experiencing with trying to get your blog to look the same.

    Oops. I will try Twenty-Eleven.
    Thanks for finding that.
