Why are comments that I make not showing up on blogs?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello, I’m having trouble leaving comments on other blogs. If I am signed in to my WordPress account my comments often (but not always) do not show up. I know that they have gone into the spam folder of at least one blog but I also know that sometimes they just vanish – the most recent was to http://mimithorisson.com/ and she has said that she has checked using my full name, first name only etc and there are no comments showing up. It’s really frustrating.
    Does this mean that I should just make sure to never comment from my WordPress account? That seems difficult to do as sites seem to force sign ins.
    Sorry for this rambling message/question.
    Oh, my blog is sosusie.wordpress.com – not sure if that is important.
    Thank you
    Susie

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi sousie this has just started happening to me too, and is peeing me off as I wanted to leave a poem tribute for a cat that has departed. I kept getting messages like “Duplicate comment” and “Can”t post comment”.

    I then tried using Google+ but to my astonishment that didn’t work either. I tried commenting on my own Blog and that worked.

    I thought it was to do with Windows 7 which I just installed but someone said “don’t blame poor Windows 7”. I think it is a glitch, albeit a mildly annoying one, with WordPress!

    Hopefully it will be resolved for us soon. :)

    Morning,

    Ah, thanks for your response. It’s definitely not Windows 7 as I’ve had this before when using XP. I guess you’re right and there’s not much that we can do about it – seems that way.

    It is annoying though, as it isn’t clear whether your comment has gone through (with me anyway) or not and, sounds like you are the same, when you do write a comment it’s because you have something to say and you’ve spent time saying it. I now copy all my comments before pressing send.

    Also, I keep reading about how great blogging is for ‘meeting’ new people and how bloggers make friends with other bloggers from around the world, kinda like a modern day pen friend, but that’s very hard to do when you can’t comment on posts.

    Yes, I too seem to be able to comment on my own blog.

    All the best
    Susie

    @sosusie-

    I looked into the site you were talking about:

    mimithorisson.com

    Please note that it is not a WordPress.com site, so if there are issues with your comments not showing up please have the owner of the site look into it as we cannot control comments that you make on sites that are not hosted by us. It is a self-hosted WordPress.org site.

    To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.

    @starwise149-

    Can you show me which WordPress.com site you are trying to comment on? I’d be happy to take another look.

    Thank you!

    Hello Grace,

    Thank you for your response. Yes, I’ve been seeing that around – the .com v .org stuff. My issue is that I seem to be forced to be signed in via my WordPress account (and almost every comment I’ve left recently – not just on Mimi’s site – has just vanished). So, in order to be as sure as possible that my comments won’t just vanish – should I be attempting, on all sites that are not WordPress.com, to comment from a different account please?

    Thank you
    Susie

    Hi Susie,

    Yes – let me know how that works out.

    Thanks!

    Hello Grace,

    So I just commented on a site, http://didyoumakethat.com/2014/04/26/simplicity-1887-the-perfect-dog-walking-outfit/#comments, that is definitely a wordpress.com (and not .org) site and the following happened:

    Wrote comment – filled in the form, with my email address and name, it autofilled my website. Clicked post then it brought something up saying was I Susie because there was an account associated with my email address and if so I should sign in and then the comment would be made. I signed in and then…? Nothing, no message or anything.

    And that’s partly what’s so annoying because there’s no way of knowing did the comment go, has it gone to spam, did it just not go..or what?

    Anyway, when I posted my comment there was only one other comment there. Maybe mine will show up but I don’t think so, I made it over 30 minutes ago and the timing on subsequent comments is after the time that I made mine.

    Haven’t tried commenting not signed in on non WordPress.com blogs yet – but it seems to force a sign in if you put your email address.

    Thank you
    Susie

    Hi there,

    If you have a WordPress.com account and you put in an email address that is associated with your account it will automatically make you sign in. As for a message not showing up – this looks like a browser issue.

    Can you please try clearing out your cache and cookies using the guide below?

    Solve Common Browser Issues

    Also, please make sure your browser is updated to the latest version:

    http://browsehappy.com

    And, as a test can you try this on a different browser like Google Chrome and see if you get the same results?

    Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you!

    Hello,

    Thank you for getting back to me. I tried all of that, cleared the cache and cookies, made sure I had the latest Firefox and Chrome and tried commenting at each stage (including before making changes, just to check) at this blog – http://sandsmith50.wordpress.com/

    Where I do seem to be able to comment, even though I comment using my WordPress account, is on Blogger. It seems that the issue is with WordPress .com and .org.

    Oh…one odd thing, I tried setting up a new email address so that I could post without being forced to associate with my WordPress account but I couldn’t post (I guess that is just the settings that that blog had).

    Very mysterious.

    Thank you
    Susie

    Hi there,

    I have responded to you privately. Please check your email and respond from there if you have any questions.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I face the same problem, but I realized that when I comment from my reader the comment shows up. So weird and frustrating. Good to know I’m not alone here.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Sounds like someone has IP blocked you. Or someone using the same ISP.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @jeynagrace- thanks for that, I’ll try that – at least, if it works, that’s a solution for .com sites. You are definitely not the only one.

    @raincoaster- thanks, I don’t think it’s that because I seem to not be able to comment on ANY WordPress blogs, regardless of whether I’ve commented on them before or am making a first attempt. If it’s some sort of block then it must be being applied by WordPress on my account (or something like that).

    @gracejiyoung- excellent, thank you. Response is on its way.

    Thanks all for your responses.

    Hi gracejiyong, hope ur still following this thread. Sorry for the late reply but my Life has been hectic lately. Never mind. I still can’t post a comment on the Cat blog I spoke about, tried it again today and even got a message “Looks like you have already made that comment” or “Duplicate comment”, can’t remember exactly.

    I too use Firefox and can comment on my own blogs. The blog I am trying to comment upon is: Three Cat Yard

    I’ll post my poem here seeing as I am desperate to post it somewhere. I also sent messages to the Blog author but got no response – maybe he is not getting email notifications of Messages via his contact form and not looking at his Feedback OR never got the messages. All very mysterious anyhow.

    Thank you Gus

    @starwise149-

    Please note that you can’t write the same comment on a post, which is probably why you were getting that response.

    Also, I found that @sosusie’s issue is completely different from yours, so can you please open up a new thread and we will respond to you there.

    @jeynagrace-

    Can you also create a new thread as your issue seems different from @sosusie’s as well.

    Thank you!
