Why are Firefox & Chrome getting a warning when they visit my site?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have had four people tell me that Firefox and Chrome browsers are showing a warning with a large full page red banner that says, “Reported Unwanted Software page” when they visit my site.

What is WordPress doing that causes this? Are they inserting a Trojan or some sort of malware on my site? I can show a screen capture if anyone wants to see it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Howdy!

I can confirm the red “danger” message from Chrome when trying to load techviews.org.

This is coming from the browser and not WordPress.com. I’ve found the instructions for you to appeal this with Google Chrome. I suspect an ad on your site triggered the warning.

But the ad came from you!
I just signed up to have you place ads on my website, they are your ads.
Are you not screening your ads for malware first?

I don’t understand why WordPress would allow such a thing.

I just looked at the link you provided for “instructions” to appeal to Google.

It gives instructions if my hosting platform was hacked, that’s WordPress.
Does that mean that WordPress has been hacked?
If so, what do I do about WordPress lack of security?

  • Hi again,

Your site has not been hacked. Google can sometimes have false positives with their screenings because of the ads, but our ads are screened and are not shown if there are any malware issues with them. Unfortunately we do not have any insight into what exactly causes the warnings or how to resolve them, that has to go directly through Google or another browser showing the warning.

I hope that clarifies things but if you have any other questions please let me know!
