Why are followers not receiving my posts by email?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am getting notification and the change is visible on my site. My posts are not generating e-mails to my followers. This occurs with WordPress account holders and also with people who just put their e-mail in to receive the posts. I found a setting that enabled e-mail notifications of new posts, and this was unchecked, but after I checked it, the e-mails are still not going out.

    Please advise.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

All post notifications for followers are controlled by the followers themselves as you can imagine. We allow the followers to control exactly how often they receive notifications.

Nevertheless if your followers are not receiving emails that would be an issue! As a test, I will follow your blog. Please reply back to me once you publish a new post, and I can check my email to see if I received it.

    Thank you!

    Hi there,

It looks like everything is working as it should! I just received an email about your post:

Please note your followers will have to check their own settings – you wouldn’t be able to do this for them. Have them check their Blogs you Follow email notifications by going here:

    http://wordpress.com/following/edit/

In addition, have them check their Delivery Settings here to make sure they are not blocking emails from WordPress.com:

    https://wordpress.com/settings/subs-delivery/

If they are email subscribers, have them check their settings here:

I will stop following your blog!

Here is what someone just sent me:

    Hi Laura!
I am not receiving your blogs again for some crazy reason. When I click on your link you sent me, Word press asks me to give my email and password and then won’t take it. I tried to register as Word suggests, but it seems like the registration is for bloggers, not for those who want to read the blog. Can you send me your link again or do you know if I need to register as a blogger to read your blogs?
The last blog I received was July 23.

I have 89 email followers and 6 wordpress followers. One just emailed and said my setting is marked private. I can’t see where that is…………

Here are comments from my followers:

The site keeps asking for a login – I don’t think I ever created one, but when I try, it takes me to creating a blog.

I can’t even log in to see your blog and it says you have the settings marked private but I don’t remember having to create a password?

I found that you did set your site to private which is why your followers are not receiving post notifications.

Please go to Settings > Reading and change the Site Visibility. Set it to:

Allow search engines to index this site

Currently it is set to Private as seen here:

    Screen Shot

Then click on Save Changes at the bottom. I will unfollow your site.

    Hi, Grace,
Two of my followers have now told me that they got the second post. This is one you suggested I send as a test, which you also got. But both told me that they did not get my first post. I did nothing differently at all! Any thoughts? Thanks

Honestly I’m not sure. It’s really hard to see what happened after the fact. What you can do is republish that post to make sure it goes out this time.

I just checked the logs and I’m not seeing any errors.

    Sorry for the inconvenience!
