why are images displayed so with such poor quality?

Hi, when I upload my images to the blog, they are displayed in very poor quality. It doesn’t matter whether I select a medium setting or full size. Even if I view an image in full size, it’s actually not displayed in full size AND it’s of very poor quality. In the media section, it says they are full size pixel-wise, but they are also further compressed from what I output the jpegs before uploading to wordpress. In other words, I can’t seem to get an image to look sharp or good. Feel free to read my latest blog post as i comment on this problem.

    Hi there,

If you are viewing your images at “full size” by clicking on them to get to the larger versions, then they will still be constrained by the sizes of the theme which you have chosen, and so are not being displayed at actual size. The only way to view them at true full size is to retrieve the URL for any particular image from your Media Library and to view it directly from there.

If you are concerned about displaying your images at larger sizes, you may want to consider choosing a theme which has been specifically designed with photographers in mind so that it can show photos at larger sizes and higher resolutions. You may also want to display your photos in galleries, so that when they are clicked on, they open in to a carousel, which displays them in a much larger, high-def, version.

Thank you for your response. The resizing that wordpress does to fit the theme I have is also the reason why it looks unsharp? Is that correct?

    Hey there,

When image sizes are reduced, in most cases there will not be any visual loss of parity. On your site the images didn’t appear to be of a poor quality to me however given that you think they are sub-standard, that is why I suggested you go with a theme which allowed for a larger space for them.

You can read about image optimization and how image size can be reduced without an accompanying loss in quality right here:
